Cheap eGPU for macbook CUDA

Hi all,

To start, i'm not sure if this is the best topic to put this post in but an admin can move it or i can repost it elsewhere if needs be.

 

So, onto the topic:

I am wondering if it's stupid of me to thing: "could i used a cheap external GPU (like a gt 730 or 750 or anything cheap nvidia) to allow my friends macbook 13" 2015 ( think) to get cuda accelerated while editing as she does lots of editing, however she doesn't have thunderbolt 3, only 2 or usb 3.0." 

I am looking for a solution that is sub £100 to get her that bit of acceleration for video editing so it makes more sense for me to transcode to something like cineform. and if so, then i might considering spending more on a gpu.

but i think it's not gonna happen because: apple, thunderbolt 2, money

just looking for that bit of insight.

 

Ideally something that can take a pci-e lane 8x would be fine, and put it to usb or TB2. its partly for exporting but just making things run better, i feel like it's within limitations of TB2 because i am not looking at running a 1080ti or anything, i just want that little bit of cuda acceleration to make things a whole bunch smoother.

(i have tried convincing her to come to PC, but if she preffers mac, then so be it. i am just trying to make her bad mac a little less bad.)

730 will be more or less useless. 750Ti may be useful depends on what the work is.

 

There are TB2 and USB 3.0 but they dont provide enough bandwidth. So is a waste of money.

 

Furthermore, Mac does not support Nvidia natively.

 

So my suggestion is to take that 100GBP and have dinner with her
