Hey guys, I am looking for a good, silent PSU around the 550w range (mini-ITX system). 80 plus bronze or higher preferred. A modulair unit would be nice as well, since it will be a mess of cables in my Node 304 otherwise. My budget is around 90 euro's. The one i'm looking at now is the Corsair RM550 but I was wondering if there are any other/better options. Like I said, one of my main priorities is silence.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Seasonic X series (known for being very quiet)

Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro, or L8 series (can't go wrong with Be Quiet!).

The corsair RM series is quiet too. Not all Corsair PSUs are quiet.

All except the L8 are beyond my budget, that one's actually suprisingly cheap. Would you recommend it over the RM550 (looking at the 530 version)?. Also the Seasonic G 550w is a little more expensive, is that unit any good (and silent)?

I've had the seasonic G series 650w. Its quiet and reliable.

I think my budget allows for better than that, or is 25 euros more than a CX600M for the RM550 an absolute steal?

i think that you should get a cx600m save some money for other stuff that you may need/want, or if you want a different maker or get what you want, but i recommend the cx600m or just corsair ingeneral

The Node 304 accept up to 160mm depth PSUs; however, if you are going to be installing longer graphic cards, fully/semi modular PSUs needs to be shorter. The RM550 is certainly a better PSU than the CX series; however, it is a 160mm PSU. There's a good chance that you would run into problems.

The CX series is a shorter PSU, so it may work. It's an ok entry level PSU that's cheap, but I typically would recommend getting something of higher quality if you can, especially with a higher-end build. Despite being semi-modular 160mm PSU, the Seasonic G 450-650w (SSR-***RM) would work with your case.

These two post from [H] shows that there will be some clearance to install longer cards thanks to the positioning of the modular connectors.

Other options you could consider are the Silverstone ST550F-G

What are you powering anyways?

To answer the last question, a GTX 760 with an i5 4670k, 8GB of ram, SSD and HDD. Will overclock slightly, 550w should be more than enough.

About the Node 304 issue, I've read about multiple people removing the "useless" PSU bracket to make room for longer PSU's. I would link you to some posts on a OCN 304 owners club thread, but I'm on mobile so it's quite difficult.

And thanks for the Silverstone suggestion, I'll check if it is afforable enough.

Yeah, you could even go for a good quality 450w as well like the Silverstone SFX 450w, Superflower Golden Green 450w, etc, but I guess many people would like some headroom.

I'm aware of that PSU bracket, but it kind of slipped my mind when I made that post. If the removal of that bracket would make the RM fit, then I guess would be an option. Electrically and qualitively, the Seasonic G 550w is superior than the RM, while the RM functionally superior (silence optimization, fully modularity, and corsair link support). Personally, I would go for the Seasonic, as it is a better build power supply, and it should be in the same price range.

Another option you could consider that is quiet is the Cooler Master V550S.

Thanks, that was really helpful. I guess I'll go for the RM550, just because I had a sorta bad experience with seasonic, how is it even possible I know. My last PSU was a M12ii and it was quite loud. Also something different is nice. Will do some reading on the Cooler Master unit, although I haven't heard much good about CM PSU's in the past.
