So I recently bought an Asus Strix GTX 1080 to upgrade my rig and I have a single question.

The Card has one 8-pin and one 6-pin ports on it.

My PSU is the EVGA SuperNOVA 650G. And all the VGA cables are 8-pin to 6+2 pin.

Question:

Do I need to buy a new cable or can I just plig in the single 8 to 6+2?

Also, the card came with a splitter adapter, it is a 8pin to two 6pin.

6+2 means it's modular; can either work as a PCI-E 8-pin connector, or  a PCI-E 6-pin connector -- your choice.

Make sure you connect all the PCI-E power connectors needed on the GPU -- those are required, not optional.

Do not use the splitter, especially if your PSU already had the necessary connections available.

PCI-E 8-pin is rated for 150W, while PCI-E 6-pin is 75W.

The included splitter/adapter literally just combines two PCI-E 6-pins to give you a single 150W PCI-E 8-pin connection.

So does that mean I need both the 8pin AND 6pin on the card? Because all I have are 8pin to 8pin.

Is it safe to run two cables to the GPU?

i.e. one 8pin to 8pin and one 8pin to 6pin.

Yes, the card requires BOTH a PCI-E 8-pin AND PCI-E 6-pin connection.

What do you mean, you only have 8-pin connections?

The EVGA 650 G2 has four (4) PCI-E 6+2 connections.

...I have a 650 G2 in one of my systems...

You can either use two separate cables from the PSU to the GPU, or a single cable.

EVGA includes PCI-E cables that are daisy-chained (e.g. one cable has a 6+2 and 6 pin ends coming off of it)

You can use one of these:

My bad, I never specified. Yes I do know I jave four (4) PCI-E cables, what I meant is that they are all just 8pin to 8pin. I don't have any that are, for example, 8pin to 8+6 pin. I don't know if those even exist.

But in conclusion, I am running two seperate cables to the GPU and it seems to be working just fine. Am installing the drivers as we speak.
