Urgent: 8700K without Cooler

Is it safe to use an 8700K just to download windows and graphics drivers for a couple hours? My CoolerMaster ML240L is coming on Sunday.

Do you have any other CPU coolers you could sit on the CPU?

 

Its fine to test to make sure the machine POSTs, but I wouldn't run it for more than a minute

Just wait till sunday. It's not worth risking your CPU.

Do you really want to brick $300+ CPU because you can't wait few days? FYI you can use whatever you are using to post this to download other stuff like Windows and drivers. Though, what would you even be using to download windows when you get it booted past BIOS?

Again, this is stupid. Why recommend this? What advantage does it serve the OP? 

 

And you would be doing this to CPU which is 100x hotter and prone to overheat on cheap aftermarket coolers.
