Hi guys, I had a thought... Does Intel have documentation about exactly how they want their products marketed? Let's say that you are walking around best buy, or browsing amazon and you see a cool computer. "what's this thing got under the hood?" you think. Seeing GTX 1070 8gb on the spec sheet you think, "hmmmm. seems legit."  You shriek loudly as you look at the next line where it says "Intel Core i7" and THAT's ALL. in some cases you might even see what generation it is. In more rare cases you see the actual model number. How are people just expected to make informed decisions with so little information. Is the lack of proper specs Intel's doing or is it up to the seller. this is not well formatted but it's a rant soo. I actually think I have brought this up before but can't remember. if lacking tech specs make you cringe here's a cringe worthy video for you

MOST people buying pre-builts/laptops don't know much the system anyways, they see that it has an i7 (they don't know the generation) and just assume it's fast because of that.

 

An example is the Apple Macbook which has an i7 and people think it's fast because they don't realize that it's a dual core.

When I used to sell PC's for best buy(ages ago) I would go off of the Label. Every gen has a different style, colors/patterns in different places.

At the end of the day, the layman doesn't really care what he or she is getting as long as it's perceived to be faster and better than their last computer. And their last computer is likely a potato on its last legs.

I used to work at Future Shop, and Computer City. Both are gone, but it's not my fault lol. We had intel reps show up and they would put intel stickers and badges on various shelves and would chat with the staff. They were never pushy with their talking points. We were never told what to say to customers.

 

System manufacturers on the other hand were a completely different story. They were sometimes pushy and sometimes committed to blowing smoke up your butt. I remember when we were selling Compaq Presario 4764's and the Compaq rep starts his speech with "Did you know Compaq stands for compatibility and quality". Anyone who's worked in that PC case knows that statement to be false.

I tore down a compaq once. that's 3 hours I'm never getting back. took 2hours to figure out how to open the case
