GPU for 3440x1440

LeSheen

Hey guys,

I just received my 3440x1440 monitor. I know my system isn't powerfull enough (yet). At the moment im running a gtx970, so i should be able to game on 2560x1080 in the meantime.

But i was wondering wich card to get 1080 just barely runs this resolution at 60 fps i think. So i was thinking i might be better of waiten for next gen cards. Other specs don't really matter at the moment since im going to build a new rig this winter anyway. Im not gaming that much right now because its way to nice weather over here in belgium. So i have patience to wait a while.

A 1080 would be about the minimum for a smooth 1440p ultrawide experience, yes. Maybe 1070Ti as it's more or less the same card. I'd hold off if you're not gaming that much at the moment.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

I used to use a 980Ti on one (equivalent to 1070) and that did not maintain 60fps at ultra/max quality settings. I think 1080 might be enough to tip it over, possibly dropping to very high instead of max. If you can afford faster, of course, go for it. 1080Ti would do it... as for next gen, assume first cards will be top end so above 1080 Ti, but eventually lower ones will come along also. Hard to predict dates though.

Main system: i9-7920X, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance LPX RGB 3000 8x8GB, RTX 4070 FE, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Looking at previous nvidia releases, first comes out the 1180, which is about 1080ti level of performance, maybe a little better. Then comes out the the 1160 and 1170, and finally after about half a year comes out the 1180ti.
