Hello guys, i think i've created topic like that in the past, but i want to renew it, because i've figured out that Nvidia HD Audio and Onboard Audio are totally separate things.

So i was switching back and forth the headphone jack into Monitor and PC and it has very different sound signature.

My GPU is 980Ti
Mobo: GA-P61-S3 ( ALC887 )

Any ideas if Nvidia has good sound source? From what i've noticed that the onboard audio doesn't handle my power efficient HD598, also i've tested it on two low-end smartphones and they both sound exactly the same as Nvidia audio, but Onboard sounds with enhanced bass and overall bit muffled and less loud ( no EQ's ).

Nvidia via Monitor: Weak but nice bass, bright and sharp/accurate sound signature, volume can go up to painful levels.
Onboard Realtek HD Audio: Strong nice bass/some clues of sub-bass, slightly muffled sound signature, doesn't get painfully loud.

I'm not an expert in this area but one thing to consider is the hardware that it is going through to get to the monitors output, that could be changing the way your audio sounds(interference and all that)

If you are having issues getting your headset to play audio to your standards with the basic stuff consider upgrading to an external DAC or sound card, I used an Audio blaster z something or other with my old sanheiser headset and it was fantastic.

No what? lol I didn't ask anything and what I said has nothing to do with drivers.

What i was trying to say that Nvidia has like soundcard or stuff like that.

Nvidia does have an audio codec to stream audio out of your HDMI cable. That doesn't quite make it a sound card. The difference in your audio is more likely due to the monitors internal dac or lack there of compared to running through your board/front I/O connections.

Well, using the Nvidia via monitor has like 5x better sound quality which is weird considering it has to go long way to the headphones ( via low quality hdmi, then monitor parts and then out to headphones through 2m cable ).  Also i doubt the monitor has something fancy in it, mby just some poor quality amp.

And when using e.g. cable extension plugged in to back panel onboard the quality gets completely destroyed, bass becomes with extremely high cracking/noise even at low volumes.

A poor quality amp/dac in a monitor is likely better than dealing with the interference from your motherboards onboard audio ports or going through the case to the front panel. There is no 'low quality' hdmi, it works or it doesn't.

(unless you want to get into high framerate 4k etc but that's another topic).
