Very Bad Lag/Unresponsive Programs

saltbox23k

Hello,

So my friend has been having a problem with his computer out of the blue. Basically what happens is anything he does or types is super laggy, and many programs he tries to run or open are unresponsive. He's tried restarting his computer but that of course didn't work. His temps are fine and CPU/GPU usage looks pretty normal, but his RAM usage was pretty high for being idle (it was staying around 40% the whole time on the desktop [he has 8GB of RAM]). I thought it may be a problem with the SSD on which he has WIndows installed on, so I told him to download Crystal Disk Info, but Chrome crashed before he was even able to search it. Even navigating File Explorer and opening Control Panel does not work or takes an extremely long time to load. What could be his issue?

Edit: Forgot to mention that a program called Antimalware Service Executable has been bouncing in CPU usage and RAM usage (around .9% usage to about 15-20% CPU usage, and 250MB of RAM)

Edit: Wanted to mention that Task Bar is pretty unresponsive as well. Everything is just extremely slow.

Specs: i5-6600K

Mobo: ASUS Prime Z170

Ram: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport

GPU: ASUS GTX 1060 6GB

SSD: Sandisk 240GB

HDD: 1TB Barracuda

Try killing the atkcomsrv (if memory serves). It's a Service used by Asus software seen to cause similar issues.

Also, 40% of 8gb sounds about right.
