Hi,

Recently my Gigabyte GA-7270-HD3 motherboard died and the shop where I bought it (pc case gear) gave me $200 store credit as they didn't sell the motherboard. I have chosen a new motherboard, but wanted to check here before buying it in case there's any compatibility issues I've overlooked.

The motherboard I have chosen is the ASUS ROG Strix B250 Gaming (https://www.pccasegear.com/products/39267/asus-rog-strix-b250i-gaming-motherboard) and my other specs are:

i5-7600K processor (I know I won't be able to overclock it, there were no Z270 motherboards left and I didn't have it overclocked in my old mobo)

2x8GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB ram (2400 mhz)

Thermaltake Pacific W3 waterblock

Gigabyte geforce gtx 1070 G1 gaming

Samsung 850 EVO m.2 ssd 500GB

Corsair RM 650i psu

Thanks for your help

well lack of OC means you might want to give the old chip back too. If you aren't overclocking and don't plan to, you shouldn't have the k-sku chip because the frequencies are the same. Maybe you could get a coffee lake i7? really not recommended to have an overclockable part and never overclock it.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

what would be the point of that? he already said he wouldn't overclock.

I assumed they wouldn’t accept a return on a part that wasn’t broken, but maybe they will because they don’t sell any z270 mobos anymore. I will ask and see what they say. If they don’t accept the return, those parts are compatible, right?

thanks for the comment
