h.265 H.265 encoding on AMD

Hi,

So I have some videos and DVD/blueray rips that i made a long time ago, and I want to save some space by encoding them to h.265, I tried using handbreak but it always uses the CPU for the encoding. is there any way to encond on an  R9 280x 3GB? And if so how do I do it?

HEVC Encode is only available starting with Polaris and Vega.

I do not think that card has hardware resources for encoding H.265.

 

IIRC, that is only in Fury, Polaris, and Vega.

You can encode h.264 on an R9 280X but h.265 is not supported on GCN 1.0 based videos cards.

 

If you want to encode h.265 you'd need Radeon R9 Fury series or Radeon RX 400 series or Radeon RX VEGA series or newer.

 

R9 285 and R9 300 series does not support h.265

Ok thanks for all your support on this,and another question: when encoding with the CPU is it better for higher clocks or more cores/ threads?
