IS G-Sync that important?

TheEvanFactor

I have seen that most good 4k HDR monitors Do not have G-sync.

Will this make a big difference If I have a 4k 144hz display but only push out 60 fps?

GSync is one of those things that once you use it, you won't want to go back to not having it.

I'm sure 4K 144Hz GSync monitors will come, but they will be pricey (not that you're going to be particularly worried about price if you're buying a 4K 144Hz monitor).

It does make a difference, and a fairly big one. With how hard 4K 144Hz is going to be to run, you're going to be in the effective GSync range most of the time (basically, below 144FPS), so it's actually one of the monitor set ups that makes most sense for GSync.

G-Sync/Free-Sync is not important but it is a "quality of life" feature.

As @Oshino Shinobu said, once you have it, you wont want to be without it.

G-sync is always a waste of money.

Adaptive sync isn't required, especially at 144hz, but at least free-sync is basically free.

I've have 2 free-sync displays, and haven't found a need to actually enable free-sync.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

if you want a moderate gaming monitor get a 1080p, 120/144hz and G-sync, 1ms TN panal

if you want something better get 1440p, 120/144hz and G-sync, 1ms TN (for tiny bit competitive) or 4ms IPS (for the looks)

if you want top of the line get 4K, 144hz and G-sync, 4ms, IPS, HDR

G-sync matters

If you have powerful balanced computer you do not need G-sync for 4k 60hz.

My gaming experience is totality smooth but I use a GTX 1080 ti with a i7 8086k.

If you can only do 60fps you can change the refresh rate in the Nvidia control panel if you are having problems.

I have no interest in the 144hz 4k 27" panels they are selling now. I have learned that to get the benefits of 4k you need a 32" or larger panel. A 1440 panel makes more sense at that size.

What I want in my next monitor is either a 3440 X 1440 at 144hz or 3840 x 1600 at 100 hz. Two 1080 tis can power them unlike a 4k 144hz panel.

I would prefer them being G-sync since I would not like to find that I need it after a $1000.00 plus purchase.

G-sync is great if you can't push the refresh rate you set, at the resolution you set in the games you play.

That's it in my experience.

I had it, but no longer need it as I limit my frames to a set value that my rig can push 99% of the time, at the resolution and refresh rate I want.

For the new high refresh rate 4K monitors coming out I think it would be required, unless you set the FPS to a constant lower value considering the current hardware available (without getting to insane).

But it only really matters in fast first person shooters, and if you have the skill to even notice such things.

60fps constant in 4K for most games would be glorious!
