The G3 is significantly cheaper so definitely a better deal.

 

But you could also go with a Corsair TX650M, really cheap for such a solid PSU. In the same price range as the G3 you have the pretty comparable Corsair RM650X and even the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750W. Not that you need 750W at all, but it's a very good deal otherwise. Nothing wrong with going for the G3 though, all of these are really good PSUs.

As the title suggests - I am planning on getting a new psu, as mine is starting to die out on me - had it for about 6-8 years.

Neither, get a focus+ gold or RMx instead. G3 has power protection issues so I would rather get something else, and G2 costs too much.
