Setup Advice Needed for Gaming

Use: Gaming exclusively

Budget: ~$500

Mobo: MSI Z170A Gaming M5

 

       Coming from dying Astro A50s and knowing nothing about audio, I've spent the past week doing research on headsets/headphones/dac/amps etc. and think I've finally narrowed the field to a few choices:  

 

Headphones - either AT AD1000X or Fostex T50RP MK3 w/ Mayflower v1 mod 

 

DAC/Amp - Mayflower Arc (I know this would be needed more for the Fostex's but I like the idea/ convenience of a combined unit)

 

Mic - ModMic 4/5

 

       More than willing to hear suggestions or endorsements on anything above.  If anyone could also tell me any additional accessories needed to put a setup like this together that'd be greatly appreciated as well.  Thanks.

I use the Fostex T50RP MK3 with Shure 1540 pads (do not use the stock pads) and a fancy alcantara headband with O2 amp off a decent ROG motherboard and the sound is glorious! I use a mod mic with this as well.

This is thanks to @Max_Settings assistance and experience.

My only concern was for decent audio, specifically direction and distance clarity in FPS titles like Squad and Escape from Tarkov. The set up delivers.

The side benefit is, it would seem my audio with anything now is very, very good.

I am looking for an external DAC and more powerful headphone amp, because I can but am in no hurry and am trying to work out what would suit me best.

I even listen to music on youtube these days, for fun and to relax - something I have never done before this set up!

If it’s only for gaming, save your money and get sennheiser game one or massdrop PC37x

I used the Sennheiser PC360 (very nearly same as Game One re sound) for several months. It's good but not even close to the Fostex T50RP.

Yeah but it’s only for gaming. He’s not going to use it to listen to music a lot so spending more money on fostex doesnt seem to be worth it

I see where your coming from, but it depends on how serious you are in your gaming.

For me, the audio quality improvement has absolutely improved my performance and increased immersion significantly. I am no pro, far from it but it's a thing to consider.

Have you thought about proper speakers instead of headphones?
