Server backups

So in a recent video Linus showed how he used his resources and his servers. He showed off his "lifesaver" where if he created a file on a server (example whannock) within seconds it would be backed up to the petabyte server (don't quote me on that) I'm wondering what software is used to do that and how I can incorporate that for my usage.

I can't see why you would want software like that. 

 

Use snapshots to keep data safe from deletion and user error. Use HA to keep a server failure from causing downtime. Use off site backups to protect against site failure or major errors.

Windows and I want it because I'm too lazy to backup loads of vms etc manually every month

This is a bad backup solution as there is no versioning. Id just use the built into server 2016 backup or veeam here.

Whats the backup target?

 

Why not use the built in backup or veeam?

Does it have to be ftp, thats a pretty darn bad protocol to be using here.
