my macbook's magsafe adaptor is doing some weird things. sometimes the light will go out, but the Mac will still report it's charging in the OS.

should I be worried about this?

EDIT: I have a Late 2011 15" macbook pro.

Is it the original charger from when the laptop was new? Is it original Apple? Is the magsafe port clean?

That said, the 2011 15" MacBook Pro is a quirky machine anyway. Probably the worst MacBook Pro reliability wise since the pre-unibody models with 8600M GT so there might be something else going on.

ok I've just checked, and it's not an original apple charger. I don't know how old it is because I bought this laptop used and this charger came with it.

the magsafe port is clean.

the magsafe port is clean.

Then it's probably an issue with the fake charger. If it works and the magsafe port area doesn't feel excessively hot, you should be fine for now.

It's kinda a big deal as when the thing goes, you can throw the machine out. Apple won't service it anymore.

the port area doesn't get hot, so I guess it's fine then.

someone on the macrumors forum made a guide that allows you to disable the amd card and still use it with the iGPU even when the amd card Is dead, but you're right.

I bought it a few days ago without knowing it's unreliable... but I installed fan control software to keep it cool and I make sure not to use the amd card, because I don't need it anyway.
