I have been having problems with my modem only assigning 1 ip address. I spoke to spectrum They told me that because im not paying for wireless (i have my own wifi) that The modem only will assign one ip address and i need a router after the modem that has dhcp capabilities. So i hooked up my old buffalo ddwrt wifi router and turned off the wifi.

At first no devices were getting internet so i reset both the modem and router. now my pc gets internet but my wifi isnt.

Any thoughts on how to fix  my dhcp issue?

I have done a factory reset on the buffalo router.

Here is where I would keep my frolics if I had any.

Why do you mean wifi isn't? can you connect?

What device are you using for wifi?

I have google wifi https://www.amazon.com/Google-NLS-1304-25-WiFi-system-1-Pack/dp/B01MDJ0HVG/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1530380632&sr=1-2&keywords=google+wifi

my wifi hotspot(?) isnt getting a signal (internet from the router) assume its a similar issue if not the same issue as before, only one device is able to be assigned an ip address.

Google WiFi is a router, so you don't need the buffalo router. Connect the main Google WiFi (the one that has the router portion in it) to the modem. Ensure NAT is enabled.

This doesn't sound like a DHCP issue, it sounds like a NAT issue.

Connect the modem to the WAN port of your Google wifi router (it is the port with the globe icon). If you need more than one RJ-45 port just plug a cable from the LAN port on the Google wifi to a LAN port on your router (leave the WAN port empty on your buffalo router). Go into your DD-WRT router settings and disable DHCP to allow your Google wifi router to act as the DHCP server.

It's weird they specified dhcp capabilities since just about damn near everything has it enabled out of the box.

As per others you need the router and can just use the router component on Google wifi

Ok so i figured it out google wifi, as you all said it is a router. google wifi also does not work down stream from another router. so the solution was to have my google wifi connected directly to the modem and the dd-wrt router after that. ill need to disable dhcp and set it to bridge mode. I'm having trouble finding that setting but im looking for it in the GUI.

Edit: I need the router to be able to connect all of my other hard line connections soon it will just be a network bridge...

Update: so far i have disabled dhcp authoritative in the GUI for the router.

Question: will any of theses operating modes turn the router into a bridge?image.png.fd80568e918b2526e28a58fdabb5d95b.png

So are you basically just wanting the Buffalo router to act as a switch?

If so, you'll basically want to set it as a normal router from that selection, ensure that it's connected to the network via the LAN ports, not the WAN port. Disable NAT and DHCP.

RIP2, OSPF and OLSR are all routing protocols and BGP is border gateway protocol.

If there's an access point mode anywhere in the settings, enable that. It will keep the LAN ports active and the WiFi but will disable NAT and DHCP.

Honestly though, if you want to connected some wired devices, get a switch. Messing around with multiple routers on a single subnet can be a bit of a pain sometimes.

im moving in a month xD. I dont disagree with just getting another switch but it would be a waste of money as my next apartment will not be as complex as my current one. I currently have 2 switches routing ethernet in my apartment that was wired (im going to miss having a wired apartment).
