If you are happy with Mint, there is no need to change

I know, if nothing is broke, there is nothing to fix... It is odd, I am wondering about it again, but I feel silly, there is no reason to if Mint is good...

TrueOS is really something else. I dislike their default desktop Lumnia but you can install plasma.

If you want a BSD desktop you can check out GhostBSD.

Hmmm, is Ghost better??? Ya I read reviews, most of the bad stuff seems to be about Lumina...

When we are updating the core operating system, the update manager will give us the option of rebooting the system to finish the process. We can dismiss this prompt to continue working, but the wording of the prompt may be confusing. When asked if we want to reboot to continue the update process, the options presented to us are "Continue" or "Restart". The Continue option closes the update manager and returns us to the MATE desktop.

Why I know what it means continue (working) or restart (keep updating)...

Wait people update from the gui? Also for most things you can restart to service or simple log out.

There is a program called needsrestart that will show and restart services so you don't need to reboot.

GhostBSD is just FreeBSD with a desktop.

TrueOS changes a lot of things from the base such as the init system and they also have patches for extra hardware support.. few other things. It's not bad, it's just different. What works on FreeBSD doesn't always work on TrueOS.

TrueOS is actually gone too.. they moved the project to Trident OS I think.

TrueOS want's to become a meta-platform for FreeBSD desktops. And GhostBSD will be one of the first.. Odd eh? That is the case though.

Ordinarily I wouldn't recommend BSD as a desktop but there are some nice things about it.. especially if you like to customize a lot.

No it's true.. the name change is annoying. They are doing good work tho and this is probably a good thing overall because as FreeBSD gets more popular we don't need to have a situation where we have 50 different distros.. even though FreeBSD is a full OS as compared to Linux with parts coming from different groups.. having a solid core base to implement your changes upon is a nice thing. I'm not a fan of all their changes but the one change I like is OpenRC.

FreeBSD is showing it can learn from the failures of other OS's.

It is odd, Mint is prob. free, but I am interested in PT when it comes out... Plus the BSD world would be easier to deal with... Open/Free/Net BSD instead of 300+ versions of it...

Open/Free/Net BSD's aren't the same OS's anymore. They are related but they have diverged much further than Debian and Redhat for instance so it's kind of hard to call them distros. It's basically for distros based on FreeBSD (and there are a handful now.)
