I am going to build a new computer... and when I saw linus' video on SSHD's I thought... Why don't I just get one of those compared to the really expensive m.2 drive I was planning on getting

So here are the two different drives I was looking at

SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series M.2 2280 2TB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-N6E2T0BW

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820147681

and the

Seagate FireCuda Gaming SSHD 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive ST2000DX002

I am going to only be using this for gaming... I am leaning towards the SSHD because of the ability for it to decide what to put onto the flash storage... so if I understand it correctly it will put my OS and my most frequently played games/applications on the flash memory as well.

Please enlighten me in the ways of storage devices

Many Thanks,

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but the SSD part of the SSHD IS very tiny so very few things could fit on there that you use frequently would benefit from it. As for the M.2, you should consider a normal sata SSD, I don’t think the boot up times are too drastic between an m.2 and sata and that goes for games as well. You would barely notice a difference for games at best. If price is not a concern for you though go for the m.2!

Should I just get one of these and stick my OS on it

Windows 10 on a 256gb SD card... that will work right?

I’m pretty sure it’s super slow. Linus made a video on this I’m pretty sure so watch that cuz my memory isn’t the best.

You do not want to do that - that'd result in very slow loading times - I'd guess even slower than a standard HDD.

Heres the build

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Zz8tCb

also what would happen if I were to run an SSHD in Raid... would it screw up the SSD part of the hard drive or would it work just the same? I would think the SSD controller on the SSHD would be confused with a raid array

What will I'll be the primary use of your pc?

I looked at your list on pcpartspicker.  Ditch the hybrid drives and go with m.2 storage.  Either SSD or NVMe will be fine... NVMe boots faster and also better with large data transfers.

If budget is a concern then maybe consider a ssd+HD setup.  If not, leave that ancient technology for the dinosaurs. After all you are planning on dropping $400 on flashy RAM sticks so, yeah, just get two of the biggest M.2 drives you can find.
