How to limit VRAM usage???

IBM_THINKPAD_R51

Hello everyone, i received  a 2GB "GTX 750ti" that really turned out to be a 1GB GTS 450.

I eventually fiqured out how to prevent windows from automatically installing the 750ti drivers and forced the GTS 450 drivers on it.

It worked and it is a lot more stable, but one problem.

Once a game tries to load more than 1GB of stuff into VRAM, it crashes because it thinks there is 2GB Vram when really theres only 1GB

So my question is how can I limit VRAM usage? (without spending money to fix the card)
