For 1440p @ 60fps, I would recommend a better video card. I have a GTX1080 and that is perfect for max settings in every game at 1440p@60fps. A 980/980ti/1070 would be a better choice especially for long term. Unless you are on a tight budget/don't care about high settings.

Main Rig: cpu: Intel 6600k OC @ 4.5Ghz; gpu: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 2080 (OC'd); mb: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3; ram: 16 GB (2x8GB) 3000 G.Skill Ripjaws V; psu: EVGA 650BQ; storage: 500GB Samsung 850 evo, 2TB WD Black; case: Cooler Master HAF 912; cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, Lots of fans, Air!; display: 4k Samsung 42" TV, Asus MX259H 1080p audio: Schiit Audio Magni Amp w/ Audio Technica M50x

You should get like a Ryzen 7 2700x and an x470 motherboard as well as 16 gigs of ddr4 3200mhz or more and like the dude above saids, either a 1080 or 1070.

For 60fps at 1440p I THINK your cpu would suffice but if you want to upgrade to a better one then we need your budget. For your GPU I suggest a 1070 or 1060 6gb at the minimum. If you want to get a new cpu and motherboard  then you’d have to get ddr4 ram (if your current ram isn’t ddr4 already) as well and that’s quite expensive for 16 gigs as the price is insane right now.

Hey man sorry about not puting the budget. I just edit the post. the budget is 1500. My ram is DDR3 so i would have to replace that.

I think with that big of a budget, you might as well buy a new PC... Not that the old one isn't worth upgrading, but if I were you'd I'd probably get a new one so I wouldn't have to keep on buying new parts every now and then... ...Although: What are your workloads? Do you use your PC for photo/video editing or do you see yourself needing more CPU horsepower anytime soon? Because if not, it may not really be worth it. But knowing a little more about what you use your PC for would be kind of helpful... :)

Make sure to tag and/or quote people so they get notified... :P:D

That's a generous amount for a 1440p conversion. Even including the monitor, no less.

1. The CPU, hence mobo and RAM can stay. Increasing resolution doesnt put extra load on these parts.

2. The graphics card is definitely gonna go. The best value choice seems to be the sub-$500 GTX 1070ti

3. Meanwhile it's time for the power supply to say bye bye. Green-label CX isnt that good of a unit, and it has served you long enough for Corsair to no longer be confident with it (as the 3 years warranty period suggests)

4. Also, get a new cooler that's also compatible with AM4 socket, the new socket used by AMD Ryzen. Overclocking the 4690k further is desirable and you can reuse the cooler some time later.

5. You can get another 2x4GB 2400 DDR3 memory kit and a larger capacity SSD as boot drive if you wish, but neither are really needed.

What case do you have? That determines what cooler you can use. Air or liquid?

1070ti is just 5% slower when running the same clocks but noticeably cheaper.

Hey! I use it exclusively for gaming. I placed a big budget because I know that the prices have gone up. If the recommendations that people give me gives me some room then I might upgrade everything else.

I can second this. With my 1080 at max settings 1440p, I get anywhere between 80 and 100 fps

Here is my build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WC8qdX

CPU: Intel i5-8600K    $239.00

CPU Cooler: Corsair H50    $49.99

Motherboard: MSI Z370 PC PRO ATX   $108

Memory: Team Vulcan 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2400   $139.99

GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 1070 TI 8GB   $459.99

Monitor (2 options)

BenQ BL2420PT - 1440p 60Hz Monitor   $229

Asus MG248QR - 1080p 144Hz 1ms Monitor   $269

Explanation:

CPU: I went with the new line of intel cpu's because if you're upgrading with a large budget might as we come to the forefront of technology and I'm an intel fanboy.

CPU Cooler: I like Corsair's line of all-in-one coolers. You can go with a 240mm rad (2 fan rad) or an air cooler of your choosing. This was just a place to start.

Motherboard: This was a $20 dollar step up from the motherboard below it but you get an additional pci-e port and some better astetics

GPU: The GTX 1070ti is the best of both worlds. Good price for good performance. Now if you really like visuals and go with a 1440p monitor, a 1080/1080ti might be a good choice but that's up to you. A 1070ti will work just fine. Also I'm a nvidia fan boy.

Monitors: Since I don't know what kind of gamer you are I decided to go with two routes:

Competitive Gamer: Asus MG248QR  because 144hz 1ms is a must and it's a really nice price for those specs

Story/Visual Immersion: Benq BL2420PT because it's a good price for a 1440p monitor

Comp/Visual Go find a 1440p monitor with 144hz and 1ms responce. It might cost an arm and a leg but it's look really really nice

I have this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137084&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Video+Card+-+Nvidia-_-N82E16814137084&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIya2yybPv2wIVVyOBCh35-AeeEAQYASABEgJWmfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds (sorry for the long link, lol) I bought it for MSRP back when they were about $200 over price during the crypto 'boom'. Its not the flashiest card, but dam is it a trooper. I have a decent OC and it never gets above 70-72c with only 70% fan usage. I was looking at the Gigabyte ones too since my mother board is Gigabyte as well, so I'd say they are alright. The main thing to look for is how well the cooling solution is from a 3rd party card manufacturer, and I have found MSI makes some of the best and I have had a great experience with 3 MSI cards. ASUS used to be my go to, but they seem to be slightly more expensive nowadays. Hope that helps!

Main Rig: cpu: Intel 6600k OC @ 4.5Ghz; gpu: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 2080 (OC'd); mb: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3; ram: 16 GB (2x8GB) 3000 G.Skill Ripjaws V; psu: EVGA 650BQ; storage: 500GB Samsung 850 evo, 2TB WD Black; case: Cooler Master HAF 912; cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, Lots of fans, Air!; display: 4k Samsung 42" TV, Asus MX259H 1080p audio: Schiit Audio Magni Amp w/ Audio Technica M50x

Hey guys! So something happened and i'm not able to fully upgrade my pc based on your answers.

As of now i'm only able to upgrade my gpu and power supply. In the future I will be upgrading the remainder parts but it'll have to be on hold or now.

For the power supply i decided to listen to @Jurrunio's recommendation and got the Corsair - TXM Gold 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply.

He has mentioned that my current power supply  isn't that good of a unit which is not the first time that I hear that so I went ahead and upgraded that part.

For the gpu I went ahead and got the MSI GTX 1080 Duke 8G recommended by @EarthWormJM2. I know that some of you suggested a GTX 1070 or 1060 but i'm thinking of being prepared for the future so i decided to pick this baby up. I was tempted to go for a Gigabyte brand but after checking the reviews for this product I decided to stick with EarthWorm's suggestion.

I want to thank everyone for helping me out. Once I'm ready to upgrade I will this post (or maybe create a new one if i forget).
