Redundancy

What is redundancy and how is it not a backup?

redunacny is a setup so that if something fails it won't affect uptime at all. So if a hdd fails, the storage system will continue to access files.

 

A backup protects data in case in case of deletion, corruption, viruses, computer failure and other issues.

 

If you care about your data, you need backups. If you care about uptime get redundancy.

Having two 10Gigabit NIC's installed when you only use one...that's redundancy.

 

One fails and the second takes the load instead on it's own, like @Electronics Wizardy said, redundancy is about reducing downtime.
