Suggestion: Cooler upgrade for Inno3D 1060 6GB compact version

Kimlangholz

Hi.

I bought an Inno3D 1060 6gb compact half a year ago and to be honest if it wasn't for the cheap price I bought it at, it would be one of the worst cards I could have bought.

The performance is great an equal to the 1060's my friends have, but it only lasts for a few minutes, then the temperature sets in and it start thermal throttling. Average temp runs around 85-88 degree Celsius stock.

Looking at the heatsink, it's no wonder that the cooler isn't performing well. It's just a rough block of aluminum.

I've tried to change the thermal paste, but it didn't have any particular effect.

I've also tried replacing the fan with the stock fan blade from AMD Ryzen 5 1600 stock cooler. The fit was very good and looked ok, but the performance didn't change at all.

So I've come to the conclusion that I need another cooler for the GPU.

I've come across this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ARCTIC-Accelero-Xtreme-VRM-Cooling-DCACO-V800001-GBA01/dp/B006DAD8HS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1529699201&sr=8-1&keywords=gtx%2B1060%2Bcooler&th=1 Would this be a suitable fit for my 1060 compact version? Don't know if there's any difference in the hole layout between then standard 1060 and the compact version?

Better yet, would it be possible to fit a cheaper AIO directly to the card? I was thinking, that if only a CPU block of an AIO had the same hole layout, it might be possible to create a bracket for the back to hold the cooler in place. Tried finding some dimensions for various AIO CPU blocks but with no luck so far :/

Any other recommendations for a well-suited cooler would be highly appreciated. I'm looking in the below 60 euro / 70 USD bracket.

Thanks.

I don't think a aio will help nor fit with that eyesore cpu cooler. At the end of the day no card out atm needs liquid cooling. Hopefully you get some solid advice to fix it

Firestrike
i7-8700k @5.0GHz w/ 1.30v, Corsair h100iv2, Gigabye Aorus gaming 7, 16GB(8x2) 2666MHz ddr4, Dual RX470's OC'd to 1390mhz(atm) in corssfire - liguid cooled with corsair h60's, 3.25 TB in Samsung SSD's, anidees white crystal cube case

Retired:

I would not go for aio solution. It would cost too much for it to be worth. Either sell the card and buy a dual fan. Or if you want to improve cooling of this one I would look at arctic accelero coolers. I do not know about compatibility but I am almost positive that something like arctic accelero mono plus would fit, improve temperatures and noise, basically make the card usable. So I recommend looking at those.

EDIT: and buy a good thermal paste. I was using mx-2 and mx-4. Currently I am using Cooler Master MasterGel Maker and getting really good temperatures overall.

EDIT2: I see that you have already found the arctic. Look at their site and check the compatibility with your card. https://support.arctic.ac/index.php?p=amp

  • 3 years later...

Made mode for this card and temperature dropped from throttling at stock to 70c with OC.

I bought old broken asus gtx 660 for 10 euros (have to note!! not all asus gtx 660 have same cooler, other type wont fit at all).

Had to do some moding, as you can see, had to dremel near power delivery, and small part close to it (pcb interference)

And dats pretty it. I believe there are some coolers witch are simply bolt on, but i didn't want to spent much time on research.

Socket bolts are 58mm x 58mm
