Simple enough, 3-Way Rx 580 Crossfire. What CPU? Budget build, can afford new Ryzen 7s if needed.

Does the 2700X? If not, highest tier of crossfire it supports?

It might but one of the cards will only run at 4X. I'd look in to used X99

It's all good. I'll cop the 2700X and do some experimenting with some various cards.

@RedwoodAyy

Some casual eBay searching shows this 5930K for $175 and this Asus X99 Deluxe for $190

Call me a sucker for modern technology. 3-Way Crossfire isn't integral to this build, as I just have the cards laying around collecting dust. I'll take my chances with the new R7s and adjust accordingly.

Öhm, you sure it will work?
I think that AMD did something and it does't even work at all...

If you use it for other stuff, you might be able to use it though. Like Boinc or other GPU Calculation stuff...

But for games? Naa, makes no sense.

PS: What do you have right now?!

Does the 2700X? If not, highest tier of crossfire it supports?

Yeah, it does, I think.

but I'm not sure.

But if it does with something like 8/4/4 or something like that...

AMD isn't that bichy about the Board, I think it only deactivates CF on nForce Chipsets.

But if you have 3 Slots in the Board you have right now, you could try it and see if it works, before throwing money at it...

I do have 3 slots of the board, so why not experiment :D

I'm aware 3-Way is an iffy subject on compatibility.

If not, even 2-Way will work.

Then put the Cards in and try it.

A Power Meter is needed though for CF Systems more than others.

Because you can see if all the cards work or not.

Would be nice if it would be so.

But its not.

Even with 2 cards many games don't work or cause Problems.

Yes and in some Games like Final Fantasy XIV Online it can cause Problems.

There are also others.

Yes, especially on Wolfenstein II the New Colossus and other Vulkan based Games.

For DX12 the Software has to support multiple Cards for it to work, the Driver can't do shit.

As for DX11 Games, with some it runs well, with some it somewhat runs but isn't really optimized and there is a buttload of (Console Ported) Games where SLI/CF does not work.

For example Nier:Automata, but also many other Japanese Games. If you see KOEI TECMO as Publisher/Programmer its unlikely that SLI/CF works.

And for most games, you don't really need it anyway...
