Welcome to the LTT Forums! Do note you need to pay a premium for the current 8th gen CPU's so I will substitute a 7th gen I7. Here is a laptop from Acer with a 7700hq and a GTX 1070 for $1500.

The problem is, my dad will not approve the purchase because he wants 8th gen.

I am also willing to wait as long as needed for a new laptop.

Well... It is going to take a while for the 8750h to become affordable, IF it becomes affordable so you may as well get the 7700hq since it is faster than the 8550u and based on the same architechure, so you may be waiting a 6 months to a year and a half for such a laptop.

I am looking for a gaming latop that is 8th generation i5 or above, gtx 1060 or above, 16gb of ram, and under 1600.(At this price you can build a custom pc from digital storm and maingear)Untitled.thumb.png.117dfe8d95b1e6f48579aff5a0e9966c.png

Ok here is one with an I7 8750h, but you are trading the 1070 for a 1060 6gb and if all you are doing is gaming and some web browsing a 7700hq should be fine. (for $1600)

He asked for a "8th gen core I5 and above" and according to userbenchmark  the 7700hq is faster than the 8550u

Thank you for helping me find this, and all I really neede was a 1060 6gb

Your welcome! But do note the laptop with the 1070 would be faster for gaming (at least with modern games minus CSGO) and many other tasks, minus photo editing.

You're comparing KBL-R ULV with KBL-H. Also userbenchmark is unreliable source.

Well when it comes to computer comparison websites they are better than most, because of their large user base.

Also good luck finding a laptop with a 8300H and a 1060 6GB or a 1070, they are generally paired with 1050s. 1050 TIs, and MX150s.

Yes it is a bit of a toaster, but it was the best that I could find that had one of the best laptops that I could find that had a 1060 6gb, 16 GB of RAM, and was within the OP's budget. Go head and find a better laptop, I am not stopping you.

Performance of CFL-H CPUs mainly depends on cooling so every model is different

It's not the best. Buying laptop isn't just specs. If that's the case then people don't need to ask for suggestions in forums. Not going to argue with ppl who doesn't know laptops.

This is the only laptop on Amazon that claims to have a 1060 and an 8300h, if you note it is poorly documented, has only one customer review and that is a one star one, and also does not have 16gb of RAM. Here is the only one on Newegg, as you can tell it also poorly documented because last I check there is no 1060 8GB model, and if if there was it would not sell for that cheap (though it later says that it is a 1060 3gb and there is a big difference between a 1070 and a 1060 3gb) it also has only 8gb of RAM, neither of these laptops appear to have decent cooling either.

I admit that laptops are not my focus, but that does not mean that I do not know them. The reason I am recommending the Predator 17 is because it has fairly decent cooling, it has power, while form factor and battery life do not appear to matter to greatly to this end user in this case, and it is within budget, the display also cover 89% of the Adobe RGB color spectrum and has Gsync, so it does not have the greatest display, but it's decent enough. The build quality appears to also be decent.

I find that a ton of people come here because they don't have the time of day to research the devices that they want to purchase, and they want to ask help of the people  who have already put in the effort.

If you are going to challenge my recommendations, I would ask that you would recommend a counter of your own,  provide a link, and explain why it is better with the proof you can dig up, and sound logic to back it, because what matters in the end is not yours or my pride, what matters is that we find this guy a decent laptop so that he can get his game on, so if you want to prove me wrong, I ask you to please do it, otherwise you are just wasting time that could be spent helping someone else. Thank you.
