my first build

Hi,

i need a new PC since I'm working and gaming on a Laptop right now and it just isn't good enough anymore.

i would also like a PC for future upgradability.

I would like to pay about 1000€ so more or less 1000 USD since everything is more expensive here in the EU.

I can go some over budget but I don't think it should be necessary since my workload isn't that tough.

I am a casual gamer (Overwatch and open world RPGs mostly) on a 1080p monitor but i am also studying computer science so I need some CPU power for the compilation of my code and RAM for virtual machines.

I tried PCPartPicker and got that list: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/4F8gnH

I don't need an operating system since I can get that for cheep from my university.

Are the parts I pickled reasonable?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Pretty good, even if I would go for 16gb ram en a less powerful PSU.

Why the 2400G and a dedicated GPU? Why not the 1600 or something else?

Swapped some things around, Ryzen benefits heavily from dual-channel as well as fast RAM. If you can, try to add an extra 2x4GB kit down the road for the VMs

Changed the CPU and board out, dropped the cooler since the stock cooler with the 2600X is pretty good.

Dropped the PSU to something more sensible and cheaper but still very high quality (I was going to go for the 550 watt version but for $2 more I could get the 650 watt version)

Got rid of the blu-ray drive, get an external one for the times you do need it.

If VM will be run, 16GB of memory would be the minimum I'd suggest.

Consider an Intel build. Higher performance cores which translates to slightly better performance in lightly threaded apps like compilers and most games.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Notes:

CPU: i5-8400. ~15% Faster than the Ryzen 5 2400g

CPU Cooler: Stock cooler. Will be pretty noisy at times.

Motherboard: Basic Motherboard. No problem with this

RAM: 16GB Dual Channel. Okay RAM

SSD: 120gb Basic SSD. Good enough for Windows

HDD: Some noisy 3TB HDD. It will only be noisy sometimes, don't worry.

GPU: GTX 1070 Ti. YASSS!!! Some real gaming power

Case: The same one you chose

PSU: Cheap but okay quality

Thank you all for your help and your suggestions.

I think you are all right and I should upgrade to 16GB.

I don't think I would need an GTX 1070TI if  I game at 1080p right? and the 200€ more are a bit much for my taste.
