I want to build a 4k gaming rig i am willing to wait for the new 1180 to drop in the next year before building it. I have started to buy parts now..  I already purchased a m.2 ssd a power supply and a case(huge clearance for parts).  My question is since i intended to keep this pc for about 7-8 years what processor should i get?  It seems like the 4k gaming benchmarks are 100% non cpu related that being said who knows just how much better a 1180 will be than the current 1080 ti builds.  Microcenter sells things like the ryzen 1600 at about 150$ is it worth buying a more expensive 2600 2700x 8700k? or is that just a waste of money?

additional notes - i will not overclock,  I will treat it poorly and leave tons of internet windows and background crap open when i play games. i currently play diablo 3 overwatch csgo etc i dont play many games like dues ex that push these games etc.  My goal is epic quality 60  fps overwatch/ similar games  in 4k.

other random questions -  do i care what board i use ? why are things like 470 board more than twice the cost of the cheapo boards will i care? why are some kits of 16gb ram 150$ when others are like 200$+ do i care?  it seems like the processor pick has a lot of built in hidden costs like ram prices board prices no included cooler etc and I Dont feel like I can buy any other parts while i wait for my gpu without figuring the CPU out. i did kind of want to overdo the ram and get 32 gig instead of 16  so its still running below my needs 7 years down the road and i dont have to try and find the same sticks years later so more expensive ram should be thought of through that lens.

all parts I buy will be from microcenter or newegg.

The GTX 1180 will be a better than a 1080ti. Not by much though. You could get a 2600, that should be fine.

Don't buy piece by piece. You'll end up with parts that might be outdated when you can use them, you can't return DOA parts (because you've had them for so long), and warranties start to run out. Unless it's an actually amazing deal, it's pointless, and just hurts the build.
