Posted somthing similar in networking, but it has it's place here anyway so sometimes my internet cuts off. I keep connected to the router, the signal is great and all but like my DL speed goes from 10mbs to 0mbs for like 30seconds to 1.2 minutes. It's really annoying and all.I was planning to guy buy a new router today, it's been like 3 years I have it, but maybe it's not the router that is the problem?

Have you checked all your equipment to make sure nothing is damaged ? Also does it always keep dropping out all day long or is it at a specific time?

Ok well if I understood correctly you are on wireless which is prone to interruption from countless things. Have you got the possibility of going wired if only to test ?

No, but I can test. Do I plug in router or directly in modem? And would a better router avoid interruption and have stronger transmitting signals or whatsoever?

Plug directly into router, and yes a better router could possibly avoid interruption and signal, depending on what you have now ?

It's a 3-4 year old router from Geek Squad at Best Buy, it's a D-Link, all I know, no specs nothing on it.

IT looks perfectly fine, go ahead and use wired for a bit and see if that drops at all if not then we can't point it to wards a wireless setting or interference.

Ok, seing customers reviews some say the routor doesen't work some say it does. If I get a 100$ router can I get like way better performance than this one? Also I am pretty sure it's the router, when I go near it I get 1.7mbs and when I go downstairs right under I get like 400kbs on steam and more connection drops. But I have a question, if the problem would be the modem, i would show a Yellow warning sign right? Sometimes that happens to and what I do is disconnect and reconnect.

That makes sense when you are near it will be better but downstairs it will be lower as it is having to go through walls/floor. As for the modem you are using a separate one ? If so could you see if you can find a model number or any info on it

Can't find any info apart it says Cisco on Modem. So would you think the problem is the router? Because it's like not as strong as it was before the further I go a way, I think it's getting weaker and weaker.
