Now Folding

Hello,

Just quickly introducing myself. As of today, I have started contributing to the f@h LTT team.

I will be using my home desktop to contribute when I am not using my computer (during work, sleeping etc). My system is running a 8700k at 4.7 GHz 1.175v and a 1080 FE.

I am considering a dedicated setup for f@h if I can find a good PPD/watt ratio GPU.

Quick question - why is my GPU usage 40 to 80%? I tried reducing the amount of CPU threads but it had no affect on my GPU usage.

Cheers,

Alex

First of all, welcome! Are you using the Chrome app to fold, or the desktop app?

Welcome dude :)

The GPU usage could be correct depending on the WU. What kind of ppd are you seeing? Should be around 700k and up.

As for best perf/Watt, it's usually found in the best gpu you can afford. A 1070 has better p/w than 1060, while a 1080ti is pretty much the best.

I made a small chart once with:

GTX1060, 2.8k ppd/w

GTX1070 4.0k ppd/w

GTX1080 4.0 ppd/w (though higher overall output)

GTX1080Ti 4.6k ppd/w

These are not real world numbers though just some average ppd of the cards and the power consumption taken from popular benchmark websites. It does however give a rough idea.
