I'm in the process of budgeting for my most expensive pc/setup yet.

It's just an all around top of line performance dream build that I've been wanting to do for a long time now.

The total is 4,263$ so far. I'm really not trying to go above 4,500$ but I'll see how it plays out.

I'll be putting 400$ a month for 12 months into the budget for this build, so I'll have time for the new processors and monitor to release.

If you want to take a look here's a list of all the tech I have currently for my setup: https://pastebin.com/j7srBrXY

Here's the list of absolutely everything I most likely plan on buying at the end of these 12 months:

Case - 105$ (InWin 303C)

Cpu - 340$ (9700k / 3700x in 2019) (Based on price of 8700k currently)
Mobo - 330$ (Z370 / X470 in 2019) (Based on price of Maximus X Formula)

Ram - 205$ (G Skill Trident DDR4)

Watercooling - 900$ (EK Custom Loop)

Monitor - 1500$ (ROG Swift PG35VQ in 2019) (Not released yet but will be somewhere around this price)
Mouse - 50$ (Logitech G502)
Keyboard - 170$ (K95 Platinum)
Desk - 300$ (IKEA Alex Drawers, BQLZR Furniture Legs, 98" Countertop)

Mic - 245$ (Blue Yeti Pro) (My current Yeti Pro is broken because I dropped it)

Mousepad - 60$ (Logitech G840 XL)
Rgb Strips - 40$ (Tingkam Waterproof) (For my desk lighting, not for my pc)
Thermal Paste - 7$ (Noctua NT-H1)
Isopropyl Alcohol - 9$ (Swan 99%)

I already have the graphics card and psu that I'll reuse which are:

Asus ROG-Strix 1070ti A8G Edition

Corsair HX750

My main concerns are:

1. What cables do I need? I have little knowledge about cables to be honest and also where to buy quality customizable cables?

2. How to make this build better? Not more cost efficient, but other products to look at/ compare.

3. I want a custom loop with hard tubing going over my cpu, motherboard, graphics card, and ram.

EK is the simplest way for me to do that without having to do tons of research, but I would like to hear other ways of going about it.

If it's an option somehow including Asus Aura lighting would be really nice considering I based most of my parts off of RoG.

4. Materials I can use for my 98" countertop other than wood because I'd like to create it myself. It would have to be a dark color, hopefully something light but sturdy.

Appreciate the help in advance

Bad way to build a PC

Do you currently have a PC set up? And is that a US build?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

If it's about the "waiting game" I know, it's mostly for the monitor more than anything.

But yes I do and also yes

So what's your current hardware? There's no point in planning any high end build now if you aren't going to buy it until 2019

I put a link with a list of my current build along with some other random stuff, but I'm not focusing on my current build. But yeah you're probably right on not focusing on the pc as of now.

Tech is going to change too much by 2019, especially with several big generational changes coming. Just put your money away, but if you want some cool visuals, that's worth it to start planning a bit.

I'll probably start out on the desk then. What changes are happening? I know Zen 2 (Ryzen 3) & Icelake will be coming but..

Ya there's no reason to replace anything in your current build for just gaming.

I get all my desks at home depot.

By mid-2019, you'll have a new generation of Nvidia & AMD GPUs, and Ryzen 3rd gen will be out. Icelake might be late 2019 or 2020.

Are the new Nvidia gpus going to be that much of a big step from Pascal cards like 1080ti?

We don't know the details yet. We're expecting the 1180 to line up with the 1080 Ti, and everything downshifts similarly. By mid-2019, we'll probably have the 1180 Ti.

Sounds pretty interesting, I'm having an issue with my graphics card right now (I believe) and I could still return it, and use that money towards an 1180.. How long does it take for secondary manufacturers to release their cards? (Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, etc)

We don't know when the next generation launches. We've heard end of July/early August, but nothing seems clear yet. Worst case is probably October. Even the rumor mill is being coy about when it's going to launch.

However, given we're near a next generation, it might be wise to save up for it now. Or buy something cheap, buy the next gen then sell the current one.

Was more of a joke...you'd have to build the desk entirely yourself at home depot unless you're into that, at least it's completely custom.

You could blow a bunch on one of those dumb overpriced desk PC cases, or just attach a server rack under any desk for the same effect...

Next gen nvidia cards are likely $599 as fast as a 1080ti, top end 20-30% faster than a 1080ti at $799, it depends entirely how competitive AMD is. Like how they rushed out the 1070ti just to be a bit faster than Vega 56.

I'm planning on using two Ikea drawers for support and storage and then just making my on 74" x 25" countertop... Just need to find the right material to use and I'll be headed to home depot :P

I'm debating on refunding my Strix 1070ti and just adding that money towards the new gen Nvidia card...

Unless you have a decent spare GPU you might as well keep it.

I have a spare 670 which is decent but I’ll have enough money to grab a new card if I really really wanted to but that’ll be unlikely

Just keep the 1070ti then, will be fine for even 1440p 144hz gaming, or lighter 4k 60hz gaming.
