Best PS4 Games?

79wjd

What are some good PS4 games -- specifically local games since I don't plan on paying for PS+. I'm most interested in games that aren't available on PC, but would consider non exclusives if it's a really fun group game.

I have / am planning on getting:

  • Infamous Second Son
  • Horizon Zero Dawn (Complete/ w/ DLC)
  • Ratchet & Clank
  • Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy
  • Spiderman
  • Uncharted 4

And I was thinking about getting Burnout Paradise and Knack 2.

Please don't Knack 2...

Burnout is getting a PC port sometime in the next few months supposedly...

Exclusives would include the obvious God of War.

  • Nier Automata (Buggy on PC, unlikely to be fixed at this point.)
  • Yakuza series
  • .. a slew of Japanese RPG's...
  • Detroit: Become human is shaping up to be surprisingly not shit
  • Shadow of the colossus
  • Days Gone if you like the zombie horde shooters
  • Uncharted 4 was solid, but I wouldn't call it a system seller. Very pretty.
  • Last of Us 2
  • Spiderman is a thing a lot of people like for some reason..
  • Infamous

Just Google PS4 exclusives. No one knows what you like, just run through the list and look at what's interesting.

Get PS PLus.

Its worth it for the Monthly Games.

Though this month its not thaat interesting, just XCom 2 and Trials something.

Infamous First Light and Second Son are something that belong together.

And you should Start with First Light, not Second Son. Because they are kinda related...

The other look good.

As for Bloodborne: Its not a game for everyone. If you like Dark Souls, its for you. If you don't, you better avoid this one.

But in General:
buy used or wait for a Sale!

@JZStudios

NIER:Automata worked well for me on PC. Didn't have much Problems with that and the Radeon HD7970GHz Edition. Not one Crash, slowdown or shit like that.

And most of the Things you listed aren't even out yet. You should mention the release date. Like for Days Gone its something like 2019

I've looked over the list, I'd be amazed if there are even four games a year I'd actually want -- at which point I'd rather just buy the games and have them forever rather than have to pay $50/year just to keep them (and get new games).

I already finished second son, but I might still get first light.... Although I didn't like second son even remotely close to as much as I liked 1 or 2. And my plan is to buy used unless a great sale comes up.

Unless I missed it, Nier still has performance issues for most, cutscene dialog is still messed up, and the full screen is still wonky without a community patch.

Was on sale a couple of weeks ago for next to nothing. Something like 2.99 or 3.99€, don't remember, bought it a long time ago.

But there are also other ones you could play. Horizon is a good Start, Uncharted is not bad but not awesome, God of War is also not bad.

Didn't notice any of that, worked well on my system.

Seems like the Problem might be the graphics card...

NieR Automata with the FAR mod is a lot better on PC than on the base PS4 as long as you have a decent gpu. On base PS4 the game has a lot of frame drops while any currently midrange gpu can just power through to 60 fps by brute force. Amazing game.

The Playstation exclusives I have found worth getting are:

  • Bloodborne - It's a Souls game but tweaked more towards speed and aggressive play while the Souls games are more defensive. This game is $20 MSRP and is a steal at that price.
  • Persona 5 - Probably my favorite turn based RPG since Fallout 2. The soundtrack and art style are mindblowing.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn - A third person Far Cry, but better than any of the real Far Cry games IMO.
  • Yakuza 0 - A pretty fun beat 'em up with a really good story and some crazy sidequests. For instance, one of them has you trying to buy a porno mag for a kid while avoiding being seen by judgmental women.
  • The Last of Us - One of the greatest stories told in gaming with some cool stealth gameplay. I think this one is often available for $10.
  • Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection: Remasters of the first three Uncharted games. If you like the two modern Tomb Raiders, these games are just like those. Uncharted 1 hasn't aged well but 2 & 3 still feel great. This one goes on sale a lot for $8 or so on the PSN Store.
  • Uncharted 4 - To me the most graphically impressive game on the system, though I haven't played God of War.
  • Odin Sphere Leifthrasir - A really fun side scrolling beat 'em up / RPG with some great 2D art.
  • Dragon's Crown Pro - Another great sidescrolling beat 'em up / RPG from the makers of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.
  • Ratchet & Clank - A surprisingly fun 3D platformer. I thought it looked stupid and for kids but the gameplay and controls are pretty tight and some of the weapons are hilarious.

Then God of War looks amazing, but I can't in good conscience buy it until I beat GOW II & III. Speaking of that God of War III is also on the PS4.

I think God of War: I really don't want a subtitle is fairly unrelated to the previous ones.

GOW 2 and 3 are also not the most engaging stories ever told. Spoilers, Kratos wins.

I know there's a mod for Nier on PC, I just don't like having to resort to mods to fix a new game and there's some other issues. I'll probably end up getting it on PC anyways though.

I think Crash Bandicoot is upcoming for PC.

Anyway my 2 cents based on what I've played.

PS4 exclusives:

  • Bloodborne: Recently was a PS+ game and I put some time (first two bosses) and LOVED it. I'm going to wrap up God of War before I resume this one though. Not sure if this is a good game to see if you like the Souls-esque subgenre. I had played some Dark Souls and completed Nioh before.
  • God of War: I imagine either this or Bloodborne is going to be my fav PS4 exclusive. (Early impression, I'm leaning on BB, but I gotta finish both to really know). Takes some adjusting if you're coming from other games (such as previous GoW), particularly the up close camera, and has a Naughty Dog heavy narrative, linear feel, which you may or may not like (I'm kind of borderline on ND's style).
  • Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy: I personally prefer LL over U4. Shorter and tighter experience. Either one is a solid experience.
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn: I played this when fatigued on open world games (and I still am after last year's Breath of the Wild, ME Andromeda) so ugh, I personally don't like it much, but hey, if you like open world games, this one is neat!

Sony platform exclusives:

  • Persona 5: If anime style JRPGs are you're thing, this one is really good. There is a lot of text to read and non-interactive story sequences (but less than something like Pillars of Eternity I'd say) and the whole time management and social stuff might not appeal to some
  • The Last of Us: My fav of ND's games. Combines survival horror with ND's narrative style makes for some really brutal storytelling.
  • Uncharted 1-3: On PS4 they're all in on package. I'd recommend 2. I hear the aiming is fixed in 1 so maybe that's good now as well.
  • God of War III: I haven't touched the PS4 version, but it was ok on PS3. Not as strong as 1 or 2.
  • I feel like there should be more exclusive JRPGs but I'm drawing a blank since a lot are on PC as well these days (Atelier, Nier Automata, Tales of, Final Fantasy, etc.)

I didn't get into the more kid/family friendly Sony exclusives (Knack, Ratchet, Jak, Sly) since I grew up on Nintendo so when I'm in the mood for that kind of stuff, I look elsewhere.

I already played the first three Uncharted's on PS3, so I'm definitely getting Uncharted 4. I'm also probably going to pick up Horizon Zero Dawn during the week of play (when the complete edition will be on sale -- if it's discounted enough).

I've always liked the Ratchet and Clank series. I'd also like to play a bunch of Nintendo games, but alas, I don't have a Switch.

Wait for a sale of those...

They are essentially the same game but it is possible that they don't run well on the PS3 at all.

I have never played Burnout Paradise. I have TLOU on both systems and it's much better on PS4 since it runs 60 fps pretty steadily while it really struggles to hit 30 fps on PS3. TLOU for $8 on PS3 is a ripoff when you can buy it at any Gamestop for $5. But I'd still just wait for a sale price on PSN. The PS4 remaster goes on sale for $8 to $12 all the time on PSN.

https://psprices.com/region-us/game/10372/the-last-of-ustm-remastered-

Hell, PSN will probably have an E3 sale next week, and since TLOU II will be one of the main games featured in their E3 presentation I'd be surprised if TLOU Remastered for PS4 isn't part of that sale to build hype. I remember when Middle Earth Shadow of War was being hyped at E3 last year Sony sold Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor Complete Edition for $4. Also the PS4 version of TLOU comes with a cool 2-3 hour DLC called Left Behind that's worth playing. If you want physical Gamestop has put TLOU Remastered for PS4 on sale for $10 many times also.

As for God of War III, wait for a PSN Sale unless you're dying to play it this second. It's also a 60 fps game on PS4 vs 30 fps on PS3. I bought my copy of the PS4 game in the PSN summer sale last year for $6.

Crap that reads differently than I meant it too. I meant I thought it looked stupid initially. But I ended up loving the graphics and art style when I actually played the game. It definitely made me a fan of the series when I only bought it initially because it was on sale for $10 and I figured I should try it since the reviews were good.

Burnout Paradise on PS3 will run at a reduced resolution, and not include all DLC. I'm also going to assume they're going to revamp the online servers, which are probably dead on console.

On PC, it never got Big Surf Island released, even though it's physically there.

I actually own the PS3 remaster but it's pretty deep in my backlog right now, behind the Yakuza series that I just started playing not too long ago and the God of War series that I need to jump on to play the new one, especially since one of the big reasons I bought my PS4 in 2016 was how impressive God of War looked at E3 2016 lol.

I'm not planning on paying for PS+ anyway, so online is irrelevant.

@SteveGrabowski0 What do you think the odds that HZD CE will be $20 during the week of play sale? The video says starting at $19.99 and there is a picture of HZD CE (along with three other games), while the blog lists HZD at $20 (no mention of CE). https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/05/29/days-of-play-is-back-new-limited-edition-ps4-11-days-of-deals/

So....what are the odds that it will be HZD CE for $20 and not just HZD at $20?

@SteveGrabowski0 What do you think the odds that HZD CE will be $20 during the week of play sale? The video says starting at $19.99 and there is a picture of HZD CE (along with three other games), while the blog lists HZD at $20 (no mention of CE). https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/05/29/days-of-play-is-back-new-limited-edition-ps4-11-days-of-deals/

So....what are the odds that it will be HZD CE for $20 and not just HZD at $20?

I guess just gotta wait until Friday to see whether the video or the webpage is correct. There should be a PSN Sale starting Friday too, though I don't think it'll be the big PSN summer sale unless it's going for two weeks.
