Sudden Microphone Failure?

UselessChimp
Go to solution Solved by JanFrode,

I assume you are using Windows 10.

Did your Windows just update to the Spring Update?
If so, you might have to go into Settings -> Privacy -> Microphone and toggle on the "Give apps access to the microphone" or something.. Mine is in Norwegian, so I'm not 100% sure what it says in English :P

So,

my mic is an AFX Firestar USB Mic, my headphones are the Razer Man O' Wars.

so suddenly the Mic stopped working in all programs.

if i go onto "manage audio devices" and talk into the mic, there is no green bar to show input is detected, however if i click "listen to this device" i do get the feedback, so the mic isn't dead.

i also tried using the mic on the Man O' Wars to the exact same effect, seemingly no input, but "listen" shows that the mic does work

if i go to "set up microphone" i get this error

"The wizard could not start"

"make sure youre audio hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the audio devices and sound themes control panel"

these are the only two devices i have tried.

Things Ive tried:

un-plug, plug back in

uninstalling device in audio device manager

uninstalling and reinstalling both drivers

updating soundcard drivers

updating BIOS

trying different cable with mic

if anyone has any ideas, any help would be much appreciated thanks :)

Ok I feel incredibly stupid :P

I tend to say "no" to everything windows asks for permission due to the windows data collection bullshit

thanks very much, it fixed the issue :D
