Image search/viewing software

I could use something that will scan a hard disk and present all pics found on it in thumbnail view, where I can then open full screen as necessary. In the distant past I would have used Google Picasa to do this, but it seems to be discontinued now. Any suggestions?

 

As background into what I'm trying to do, basically I'm looking for a photo I know I have which I don't have any details to search for, like possible filenames or dates. I have to look for it visually. I don't want to have to manually navigate through every folder, so having everything presented in one view is desired.

The first thing that comes to my mind is Adobe Lightroom

Irfanview has a tiny Irfanview Thumbnails addon that can do that, just select a folder then Options → Load thumbs from all subfolders.

A giant list of all images in a folder recursively.

Thanks, but I forgot to specify it should be "free" software. It's only a one-off use.

Thanks, I'll have to have a closer look at this also. This looks like it could be useful for more than what I need for now.
