Toasted Memory question (RESOLVED)

So my system has been acting wonky lately so I went into the bios to see if something was amiss and sure enough it shows only 8 Gigs of ram installed when I have 16 Gigs, I messed with Ryzen master and same if I OC it goes kapoof, I ran optimized defaults and re-ran the bios and if I try overclock other than defaults it shits the bed, can a stick of ram go bad and not show an error and the system run? It is a flare x kit 2400 that has been running for over a year overclocked to 3200 did I roast a dimm, good excuse to put a 32 Gig kit that I've wanted but ram prices are still painful I will pull both sticks and run one at a time to see if that shows me anything but strange that other software monitors show 16 Gigs i.e. CPUID and AIDA64

before you assume anything, check the memory with memtest64.

Ran memtest64 crashed on first loop looking in my system info see this:

One of your memory module is bad, for sure.

test one at a time to define the bad one.

Memory sticks usually have lifetime warranty, you may want to consult to the store.

I would simply try to find the bad RAM stick and use your warranty to get a new one.

Corrupted memory (or bad working memory) can mess up and even corrupt your whole system.

So if I were you I wouldn't take any chances.

This weekend I will swap hardware for sure, has anybody ever had ram disk cause issues? I was testing my peer to peer 10GBe network transfers and created a ram disk but since removed it I am wondering if its possible that it is somehow still allocating ram even though it is not showing up in finder?

Never had any issues with it though...

However, if you haven’t removed it properly, it could be the underlying problem.

Well decide not to wait for the weekend and unless someone has any other ideas that may cause it I think its clear 1 dimm is dead as I pulled slot B2 and the system booted and reported only 8 gig installed and working when I swapped them out in slot A2 1 stick did not allow the system to boot, funny thing though when both are populated the system knows there is 16 gig installed but only 8 available. Now do I buy another 16 or 32 gig set of the same ram and call it a day that give me either 24 gig or 40 gig that can be done right?

Still trying to understand this, does this look like 1 stick of ram is somehow reserved I have 16Gig but the system only shows the 8 available? What does hardware reserved mean and whats it use case is there a way to see what hardware reserved this I'm still thinking that ramdisk that I setup a few month's ago may be at fault but I checked and there is no ramdisk setup that I can see and as a precaution I removed all related software from my system will have my new ram kit tomorrow so will see what that does

Update: installed new set of ram and all is good started RMA for old set anyone have any experience with Gskill and an RMA please post your experience, TY!

G.Skill is quite good about replacing RAM. Their sticks have a lifetime warranty as well.

Of course, you'll get the typical poorly-translated-English response from most of their techs, but as soon as you get to the RMA stage it should be easy to replace.

It'll probably take a while, as do most Asian tech company RMAs.

TY! Yeah it was strange that the dimm reported that it existed but would not actually be there to use I was a little worried as My CPU overclock failed and I could only run stock I  found that to be strange as well although I've never run 1 stick of memory I thought you should still be able to overclock but yeah I figured to buy another kit of the same type and when I get the RMA set back I'll just put then in and I'll have the 32GB I wanted, I'm now wondering what type of performance hit I'll take going from dual to quad channel I read some reports that Ryzen seems to run better in dual channel

I did get the confirmation email but not the approval it said up to 72 hours

As I have said before, G.Skill is quite good about replacing RAM. I've hardly heared anyone complain about their warranty service.

Cool look forward to getting it straightened out I have a Threadripper build planned and it would give me options as my R5 1600x has a 32GB kit in it and would give me 3 sets of RAM to play with

Just an update for anyone that has to deal with Gskill I RMA'd my ram kit and within a week a new replacement kit was in the mailbox no questions asked!

G.Skill is indeed quite good when it comes to customer service and dealing with RMAs.
