Hi, my name is Jaroslav but call me Charlie. I just installed Windows 10 on Lenovo thinkpad W510, there were not problems.

(CPU: Intel i7 720QM

GPU: NVidia Quadro FX 880M)

I looked up at ram it said 12GB, i was happy because there were only 6GB installed, but it was really weird.

Than i i uscrewed the ram "comparment" and i took away the 2GB and 4GB and i resembled it.

Suddenly in Bios and in This PC wrote 6GB so i was happy.

So i took the 2GB away and changed it with 4GB to have REAL 8GB, but in bios it wrote 6111MB (something like that) and in THIS PC wrote 6GB.

So i decided to take away all ram start the laptop. In bios it wrote 6111 (something like that) and in THIS PC 6GB. So i am confused.

I edit videos on this laptop. Could you please help me with this problem?

Thanks, Charlie.

First of all, the PC wont boot without any ram, so possibly 6GB is soldered? How many slots are there? 6144 = 6GB the missing 33 is probably hardware reserved.

That’s some weird magic right there! You cannot boot a laptop having no ram in the system.

According to several webshops, this taptoe supports max 16 GB and comed out of the box with 4 GB DDR3.

The 6144 I am not sure exactly i knew that is starts with 6. I found this on Cnet:  It may have 4 slots.

MEMORY

  • RAM
    4 GB (2 x 2 GB)
  • Max Supported Size
    16 GB
  • Technology
    DDR3 SDRAM
  • Speed
    1066 MHz / PC3-8500 - 1066 MHz
  • Form Factor
    SO-DIMM 204-pin
  • Slots Qty
    4
  • Empty Slots
    2

I think those two slots are soldered in, with a 4gb and 2gb stick of ram. The empty slots is what youre looking at and taking ram out of.

it could be that those slots only support a certain amount of GB per stick. I have an X58 motherboard that will completely ignore 8GB sticks but works fine with 4GB and lower. maybe try a lower capacity stick.

dunno what to tell you. Sometimes laptops can have faulty slots or just fake slots entirely..
