Hi,

I'm buying a pc, and couldn't order my ram because it went out of stock everywhere.

I wanted the G.Skill Ripjaws V F4-3600C17Q-32GVK.

It seemed to be the highest spec memory I could get for my motherboard, the gigabyte designare EX x399.

The ram compatibility sheet is here: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_x399-designare-ex_v1.pdf

I already assumed it wasn't possible for me to combine two kits of: F4-3600C16D-16GVK. (Can someone confirm)

Now for the actual question.

The following ram: G.Skill Trident Z F4-3600C17Q-32GTZ seems to have pretty much the same specs as my ram of choice. It doesn't show up in the memory list however.

So would this ram work?

What other ram would you recommend? I already went all out on the rest of the parts so I don't intend saving on the ram.

Important specs:
gigabyte designare EX x399 w/ AMD Ryzen TR 1950x. Using an AOI so cooler clearance shouldn't be an issue.

you can do this, and it would work perfectly fine.

also, Threadripper doesn;t really benefit from fast RAM in the same way normal Ryzen chips do, so if you want to safe some money you could go for a lower clocked kit and get roughly the same performance out of your system.

The memory QVL means that the company who made your motherboard has tested the ram successfully on your motherboard. It does not mean that other RAM will not work, but there is no guarantee. I doubt you will actually get 3600Mhz without really loose latencies because first gen ryzen/threadripper struggles to get over 3200MHz.

If you combine two identical dual channel kits, would it run in quad channel?

Jep. The channels are bound to the memory controller on your CPU, not the sticks themselves.

If you have a controller capable of running quad channel, any 4 sticks will run in quad channel.

Never knew that. Thanks!
