Plug it in with your current OS and run any firmware update needed on the drive before you begin.
You can use a multitude of programs to create a bootable iso USB image.
I wouldn't reformat as you will probibily want to keep some files you already have? and i am guessing you will want to set programs to install on that drive and have the user folder on that drive as well to stop your SSD getting clogged up?
