Go to solution Solved by Altecice,

Plug it in with your current OS and run any firmware update needed on the drive before you begin.

You can use a multitude of programs to create a bootable iso USB image.

I wouldn't reformat as you will probibily want to keep some files you already have? and i am guessing you will want to set programs to install on that drive and have the user folder on that drive as well to stop your SSD getting clogged up?

here is a guide i suggest you follow it explains everything about using an SSD/HDD combo and setting up windows correctly:

Hi guys,

I got a 256GB SSD for Christmas and want to install it as a boot drive.

My Questions are:

1) Should I test the drive before intalling the OS?

2) How to install Windows 7 from a USB drive? (the OS is already on the drive)

(DVD is not possible because I only have 2 SATA cables right now)

3) How to reformat HDD

I already deactivated my Windows 7 key:Nitrome90

Thanks in advance

I can do this, I just want some cake. - Linus Sebastian
