Looking to build a budget PC for some light video editing, I've built several before for myself or friends that usually include some crazy RGB, $200+ Chassis and some other things that aren't related to the performance. I've always built intel rigs but maybe I should try and save a few $$ and go with Ryzen?

CANADIAN PRICES!! - FYI $1000 USD is about $1300 CAD

INTEL: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/dustonfoster/saved/#view=bK4yf7
AMD: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/dustonfoster/saved/#view=FgJYrH

I did not include a GPU in either list, I'm waiting for prices to drop a bit more than they have already. I know video editing uses a lot of the CPU so hoping I can get by a couple months without it and maybe wait for 11 series?

Currently already have..

500GB M.2 SSD
EVGA 550w Modular PSU
Crappy case

I've been sitting on these items for a few months, got them at great prices and figured I wouldn't kick myself later for not getting better parts.

Current Rig

Thermaltake Tempered Glass Chassis W/ 3 LED Fans
Side Mounted MSI GTX 1070 8GB Armour Edition
Gigabyte Gaming 7 Mobo
KabyLake i7 7700k
Thermaltake AIO Cooler - Dual RGB Fans
Corsair 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz
EVGA 750w PSU
500GB Samsung EVO M.2
750GB Crucial SSD
1TB WD HDD
Win 10 Pro

Your amd based system is quite a bit weaker then the intel based one, go with a ryzen 2600 paired with a b350 motherboard and that should come a little cheaper then your intel build and perform better (assuming that video editing is your primary use case)

Edit: I misread the motherboard name and thought it was a A320 motherboard, the mobo you chose is fine, the 2600 should only be 25 cad more expensive and is a little faster.

Thanks! I haven't done to much research on the Ryzen side of things, going to the 2600 is only $30 more and $20 more on top of that for the X version. So currently I'd save $80 with Ryzen VS Intel or $100 if I did the NON X CPU.

Only being $80-$100 cheaper should I just stick with my usual Intel?

WELL, before I finished this post I changed the Mobo on the Intel build to a budget B360 and now I'm only looking at $20 more VS Ryzen

It depends on what you need, for video editing, they offer very similar performance, and if you choose to get the 2600 and overclock (potentially with a budget cooler such as the hyper 212 evo) it may outperform the intel cpu. That being said, stock or oc the difference won't be very large between the two cpu's, and the intel cpu will be faster in games, which you may want to consider if it is something you plan to use the system for.

That all makes sense, I'm not in a huge rush so I'm just going to take my time and find some good deals on RAM. A build I did last year with 16GB of DDR4 cost me $159.99 CAD for the set, that currently set goes for $255 - $279.99. UGH..

Yes, ram prices are eye watering right now, all we can do is hope the memory companies get caught for price fixing on ram.

unfortunately there doesn't seem like a light at the end of the tunnel right now, as much as I wish I was wrong, prices are likely to stay high for 2018
