Im in the market for a new phone as my current galaxy s5 has been showing its age for a while now. Ive narrowed it down to these 2 phones.

The oneplus 6 costs €570 for 8gb ram and 128gb of storage

The iphone 8 costs €630 for 2gb of ram (im aware the ram isnt comparable) and 64gb of storage

Many of my friends have an iphone 7 and recommend them but i dont buy phones very often (hence the galaxy s5) and would like something that would last me some time (would an iphone 7 still be a good option?)

Mainly use my phone for:

-Snapchat

-Youtube

-Browsing etc

Looking for:

-general fluidity of operation

-decent quick camera both front and back

-Battery life capable of lasting the day

Any other suggestions are welcome dont want to pay over €650

How about the LG v20 or G5? Those are the most recent flagship phones with a removable battery. Or I would recommend the S9. But if you are stuck on those to get the oneplus 6.

Unless you want wireless charging and want the extra performance of the iPhone 8 and its A11 Bionic, you should consider the iPhone 7. It might not get as much battery life as the 8 since the 8 is more efficient in low power tasks, but you can save a pretty penny.

The user experience won't be compromised by getting the 7 over the 8.

But if battery life is paramount, the 8 is going to perform better than the 7.

Do you think the iphone 7 is powerful enough to last a few years more? I agree it looks like a good option as its much cheaper than the others for a refurbished model. Im just worried that considering its a refurb thats nearly 2 years old that the battery would be a limiting factor soon enough

Powerful? For sure, the A10 is still an amazing SoC and it will get updates for probably the next 3 years. As for the battery, Apple offers $29 battery replacements (whatever the equivalent in your country is probably) for all iPhones.

If you buy a 7 new, you will get a new battery, if you buy a refurb you might get one that has been used a bit but you can always get it cheaply replaced.

If you don't want to worry about any of that though, the 8 will do better across the board but at that higher cost.
