Core 2 Quad Overclocking

I recently picked up a core two Quad Q 9400 and in Asus P5 Q motherboard for $15. What I try to overclock it based off of the many videos it blue screen and wants to take the overclock even though about a week ago it was running at 3.4 GHz fine. I am looking for a veteran with actual experience overclocking 775 chips I know things variate between different chips but the more experience the better the specs for the system will be down below.

Wait, you want to OC is because it always BSODs when you playback videos? I am afraid that this won't help but rather make matters worse. There's something else wrong with that system.

Maybe it's because of that Hynix 667MHz memory?

Easy, push a bit more voltage to it. If you're hitting 1.35V or the thing is getting too hot though, you have to back off the clock speed slightly.

No, he's saying that the machine recently started to BSOD even though it has been overclocked for so long.

well it's a super budget build so I cant really afford better ram

No he's saying because it's mismatched. Either drop the frequency of all the ram to 667 or up the voltage.

What ever the higher of the two is? I haven't looked at DDR2 voltages in a very long time.

When you had it at 3.4GHz you probably had FSB at 425? With 1:1 FSB RAM ratio (which is recommended for Core2) you'd be running your memory at 850MHz.

originslly I had 5gb of ram in it but it was all 800hmz
