Can this run 1440p?

boey

Can this build handle 1440p gaming at 144hz?

i5-8400

GTX 1070

8GB DDR4 @2666

470W PSU

1TB 7200rpm HDD

16GB PCIe Optane Memory

Also, is this a good monitor to get? I’m on a budget and found this 1440p 144hz monitor on amazon for $299: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NCTHS6E/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1525761933&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=1440p+120hz&dpPl=1&dpID=41AFLLdMBWL&ref=plSrch

I dare say yes, though you may want more RAM and a slightly better CPU.

Depends wholly on the games & the quality. If you're talking 2017-18 Triple A games, no. Maybe at really reduced quality. 144 Hz at 1440p is pixels per second than 4k 60Hz. Which is hard for the 1080 Ti to do in major, recent titles.

Boot SSD is a must.

I’ll probably play at 1440p on games that arent so modern anymore like GTA V, for most modern triple A games ill probably play at 1080p

Is it enough for medium-high settings on GTA V at 1440p?

I’m not sure if the RAM is enough for that 1440p@144hz for GTA V at medium-high settings? Also, is the monitor good enough?

For the Triple A games I’m planning to get, I plan to run them at 1080p. 1440p for me is just for games like GTA V which don’t need an ultra high end PC to run at 1440p, and for regular use. I’m just a little worried about the RAM usage. Don’t know if 8GB is enough for it

For now it is, but it's getting pretty tight. Some of the really recent release, though, it's right on the edge. Though it probably wouldn't effect frame rates enough to drop you below 60 FPS on 1080p. You'll be okay for now, but I would make sure your board can has 4 RAM slots. That way you can add more later (when it's hopefully cheaper).

I'd still drop the Optane and go with a Boot SSD. Even if it's a 120 Gb one.

Mine is a prebuilt, with only one year warranty. waiting till next year when the warranty runs out before adding a SSD and more RAM, and I’ve checked and I have 4 RAM slots.

Yes it is but it won't run 144fps @ 1440p with a GTX1070, I know because I have a 1070 with 1440p 165Hz G-Sync monitor.

1080p on a 1440p monitor looks terrible since it doesn't scale well.

GTX 1070 can run modern games at 60 FPS at 1440p if you reduce some settings. 144 FPS will be very hard to reach. I have a GTX 1070 and 1080p60 monitor and I still have to reduce some settings in new games to achieve stable 60 FPS.
