Yes it is. You won't really need 650 watt, a 550 will be fine.

If you're in the US the 550's go on sale quite often, or have a rebate on them, making them about $25-35 normally. Worth looking if the 650 has a sale/rebate on it though.

Before you buy that motherboard: Don't. The VRM has no heatsink and will overheat with an i7 like my old B85 did with an i7. Get one with a heatsink on the VRM.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

For the PSU, depending on what's available, the Whisper M 450W, Straight Power 11 450W or RM550x. Otherwise, Focus Plus Gold 550W, GX-F 550W, Focus Gold 450W, TX550M, G2/G3 550W or Leadex Gold/II 550W. Get the cheapest one available out of those. Some are only semi modular, if you care about that. If you absolutely cannot afford those, the Pure Power 10 400W is a good option.

If you haven't gotten the parts yet, change the CPU. For gaming, to the 8400, and for content creation, to the 8700. You'll also have to get another motherboard. Alternatively, the Ryzen 2600X.

A good quality 450W is sufficient w/o OC, with OC 550W is pretty good.

Examples: be quiet Straight Power 11, Bitfenix Formula or Whisper M, both available in 450 and 550W

only 550W: Cougar GX-F

 

If you don't have those components:

Don't get them, 7k is ancient, shouldn't be bought.

And for what did you recommend 650 and even 850W?!


More wattage is NOT an advantage if you don't need it. Its just a waste of money and in some instances you get a louder PSU.

Also higher damage when something goes wrong due to higher Bulk capacitance and  higher OCP Settings...
