Suggested Cooling

Well the thing is, if you start to overclock you'll probably end up being thermal limited. Even if you get a decent cooler like an h115i or something similar. If you want the best i would get one from NZXT or Corsair.

Problem is that it's not the fault of the cooler. An 8700k runs quite hot when overclocked. Not much you can do about it.

Personally i have an H100i V2, but i hate it. I'll never get an AIO again. I would just stick with air.

If i was you i would buy the NH-D15, it's not that pretty i agree, but it will perform stupidly good and it will be so quiet it's in a different league than an AIO.

Ok thanks I'll just go with air cooling now.

Hi,

Just looking for some help selecting a cooler for the PC I'm going to be building.

I will be using an i7-8700k and a EVGA - Geforce GTX 1080 8GB FTW Gaming ACX 3.0,

Would someone be able to suggest water cooling and air cooling options that would fit this build and be effective when overclocking at high speeds.

This will be used for gaming, in terms of budget I'm looking between $150 AUD and $250 AUD for cooling so it would be great if I could get some air and water cooling suggestions fit for this build.

Thanks

in Aircooling i would choose a Noctua NH-D14. it gives excelent cooling with the color of performance. in term of AIO ive got no clue, but generally good aircooling is as good as AIOs

Ok thanks I have heard that these are really good fans however, I don't really like the colour of the fan as it has a retro look to it, do you have any other suggestions in different colours (Black, White, RGB)

Thanks for the fast response

AIO wise, any 360mm AIO will be fine.

Afaik Corsair, Alphacool, Fractal design, Arctic cooling, NZXT and a few other brands are available.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

try the bequiet. something like this should be adequate. i believe it is similar performing to Noctua.

Since the Dark Rock Pro 4 isn't available in Australia would the Dark Rock 3 Pro be just as good- https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/fFWrxr/cooler-master-masterair-ma610p-534-cfm-cpu-cooler-map-t6pn-218pc-r1

Or would you suggest something like the Cooler Master MasterAir MA610P - https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/fFWrxr/cooler-master-masterair-ma610p-534-cfm-cpu-cooler-map-t6pn-218pc-r1

If none of these any other suggestions?

Thanks for your assistance

yeah i forgot the pro 4 wasnt in au. sorry. i believe the darkrock will edge out in both noise and temps as it is simply a larger cooler. it may also have different quality fans, but im unshure in that regard. unless you really want rgb id get the Dark pro 3. you can also repurpose the fans later on if you want RGB ones instead. those fans are supposedly very good

In terms of water cooling do you think that the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ml240R would be a good choice - https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/Vx22FT/cooler-master-masterliquid-ml240r-rgb-667-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-mlx-d24m-a20pc-r1

or

would you suggest I go with the Thermaltake Water 3.0 Riing 240 (https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/TvfmP6/thermaltake-cpu-cooler-clw107pl12swa) would be good enough or should I go with the 360mm version (https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/NqmxFT/thermaltake-cpu-cooler-clw108pl12swa).

Thanks for the help

Cooler master should be decent, don't know about thermaltake tho but it looks like a rebranded asetek cooler so that should be fine as well.

Which fans will I be able to repurpose and which cooler will I be able to use them in. I am also most likely going to go with the Dark Rock Pro 3 but I just didn't understand what you meant.

Thanks

the fans on the darkpro, but with a closer inspection im unshure as the fans have some unorthodox mounting holes. if you dont understand me it is generally unimportant. the darkpro fans should work in any if not all standard towercoolers. you can probably also use it as a casefan, but that might not work due to as mentioned earlier the mounting holes. i could be misstaken however.

Ok thanks that makes more sense, now I just have to make a decision between water cooling or air cooling.

If you were to suggest some water coolers which ones would you say would do the best job at cooling the CPU, what brand? what version from said brand?

Also do you think the Corsair h115i will be sufficient cooling for an overclocked 8700k?

Thanks, sorry to be a pain

hey did you get your rig up and going yet? what'd you go with? before i got this new case, running a 4.6 and 4.9 OC with a corsair h100iv2 my temps were always great, for a $100 USD aio, and it looks pretty cool. I', curious to know if you went with that huge heat sink thing, and what your temps are with that compared to my aio....(im not a fan of those huge heat sinks, they look rediculous to me, but am curious how well your temps are.
