Good morning LTT users,

so I had 2x EVGA GTX1080 FTW running in SLI and recently decided to switch to 2x EVGA GTX1080ti FTW3.

Yesterday the first 1080ti arrived, which has been used for only a few months, but without any problems, so I swapped the 1080's out and put the 1080ti in.

The Driver is the same, yes I am using GeForce Experience btw, and the new GPU worked instant properly... till i started the first Game....

I had not much time yesterday, so here is what i already did, and what im going to do next:

  • I did reinstalled the driver, but i would like to keep geforce experience as I never had problems with it, and enjoyed the possibilities it gave me
  • I do have EVGA XOC running cause im an longterm EVGA user, and the GPU clock, mem, voltage .. all like its supposed to be
  • GTA V does not work in "normal Mode" but easily in "safe mode", cities skylines works as usual, 3D Mark doesnt even start... every other game does worked for like 3 sec. and the freezed and stopped working
  • i did checked all nvidia settings, everything just right
  • COD BlackOps II has an interesting phenomenon, it starts, works 3 seconds, freezes 3 seconds, works 3 second and so on
  • and no i dont thinks its the PSU, its an 850 Watt 80Gold EVGA G2 PSU which had powered 2x 1080FTW with heavy overclock without anyproblems ever
  • I tried both BIOS on the GPU
  • turend on/off g-sync

What im going to do:

  • I've planned putting the card inside an second pc with an clean windows install, see what happens
  • downclocking the card
  • reinstall all directx
  • if it has to be, reinstalling windows
  • i could go back to one 1080 without changing anything, see if it works
  • completly uninstall all nvidia software as experience etc. with DDU and reinstall only the clean driver
  • turn off the geforce experience ingame thing, also it never appeard on game start as it did with the 1080s
  • i do have an potential old psu i could use (550W) but i would have to rebuild 2 whole builds to get that one thing out into the other one
  • i could connect all 4x 8-Pin (6+2pin) VGA connectors from the psu to the adapters the 1080ti came with (each 2x6 pin to 1x8 pin)

Normally i would count myself as an very experienced user as I've build so many systems, fixed all problems I ever had

but this time I'm interested in you opinion and your help

If every solution fails and i dont get it working i will contact evga

thanks for reading, looking forward to your opinions :)

Try DDU first, it's probably the driver that's ruined.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

As expected, it wasnt the driver, but somehow it still is...

I restarted Win10 in Safe Mode, uninstalled all Nvidia Driver etc. even uninstalled all OC and OS Tools like EVGA Precision X OC, reinstalled only the GPU Driver, nothing else, aaand it doenst work like its supposed to be, which means f.e. Black Ops II is running now, but as far as i go back into the menu it crashes... other games still doesnt even start

The g2 850 should not be a problem. I would just clean install windows if i were you. It can be done pretty fast and you save yourself some time.

Well i did that yesterday, on the same system, having the same problems. I'm going to visit a friend after work, who has exactly the same card, and we gonna swap cards to see if it works, if it doesnt, its an Hardware issue with the card itself -_-
