Hello there!

In a few months I will be heading to university to study Mechanical engineering. I was wondering would it be worthwhile going for a processor like a laptop with the new i7 8809G and i7 8705G  which is a quad core CPU with a pretty sick GPU thats on par with something like the GTX 1060 and GTX 1050ti respectively , but is integrated! Or going for a laptop sporting the i7 8750H hexa core CPU which could come with something like the GTX 1050ti.

My workloads would consist of a few games and obviously CAD work, as well as presentations and note taking.

I will have my desktop with me ( specs in my signature?) for heavier loads.

To be honest its really a competition between the HP 15t Spectre x360 Vega, the Dell xps 15, Dell xps 15 2n1 and anything else yet to come out that's equivalent.                                      ( I need thunderbolt 3 over 4 pci-e lanes lol)

Thanks!!

I'd go for the XPS 15.

I'm only iffy since in the long run would it be worthwhile keeping it? The 2 in 1 form factor seems appealing as well... so why tho ?

2 in 1 devices are generally much harder to repair and are more of a gimmick than anything else imho.

And this is coming from someone who has a 2 in 1. My next laptop will probably not be a 2 in 1 but a regular laptop.

Umm misconception here. Vega GH only performs slightly better than 1050TI mobile in games. Vega GL is slightly faster than 1050 mobile. Also, performance of mobile CPU depends on many factors, not just technical specs.

Desktop specs:

Any requirements like weight, display size, display quality etc? I would suggest laptops with CFL-H

LOL didn't see your previous post. All options above are good, though XPS 15 has more issues. Also consider mobile workstations, HP Spectre x360 15 (KBL-R+MX150), Lenovo Yoga 720/730 15
