I've used Recuva in the past. It has a free version that can scan for lost files. To actually recover them you need the paid version though.

Let this be a reminder to read the manual and always keep backups.

I'm actually not surprised converting between partition type required a format. What did you try to do? Primary partitions are fine to use nowadays.

I brought  a new tool which is recovering files but when I click recover it says don't recover files where you lost the data. (Ex-

a .zip file is in D drive I want to recover it but I can't recover in D drive) My full hdd is formatted except C drive but I can't recover my all files in it bcz recover data is around 300gb and i have 20gb left in C drive

what would happen if i recover data in drive where my data was lost

Do I have to buy new hdd for recovery

Recovering data in the drive where data was lost might overwrite lost data, and overwritten data can't be recovered by any data recovery solution. I got this information while browsing minitool's official website:), a data recovery software developer, and it should be true. So, it's better to buy a new HDD for recovery, or you can borrow an hdd for recovery, and then transfer data back to your own disk.
