970 Benchmarks fine, fragments on desktop

My EVGA GTX 970 is about 3 years old, no overclocks or anything.

I can run Heaven at max settings for several hours without a single issue, but when I multitask on the card, or navigate windows normally, the card fragments the screen off and on, and occasionally blue screens. I tried flashing the bios to a newer version, but the issue prevails. Sometimes the fragments are small, sometimes they take the whole screen.

Any idea what could be causing it? Or is my card dead?

UPDATE:

I've tried DVI, VGA, and HDMI, all have the same issues. It seems I can run benchmarks/game on it fine, but as soon as I try to multitask with windows, it either crashes or fragments. I've also found a new type of fragmenting that it did. 32238403_1960386197307317_8246194426427211776_n.thumb.jpg.fdda038c96f819934deac3c314b25ba0.jpg

how hot is the card running while idle?

in any case. i had this happen with an old r9 290 and it was due to it being a used mining card. card ran great with games , but would crash a lot just on the desktop unless it was underclocked. simply a result of being beat on it whole life.

Have you tried using another Port on you card

it could also be that the Port on the display is broken.

From the pictures it looks like the fragments aren't constantly in the same spot, So i think it has something to do with the ports/cable

The card runs at 43C idle, max 75C under load. My board only has one x16 pcie slot, but I'll try other cables or in a friend's computer. Might try underclocking as well if that doesn't work.
