Hi I was looking on Amazon, Newegg, and Ebay the other day and saw that GTX 1060 3gb Cards are very inexpensive if you get them used. I found listings on Craigslist, letgo and offerup for these cards under $200 which is about the price of a new gtx 1050Ti. I was just wondering why people aren't using these cards very often as budget cards? Anybody know?

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

that's true but if its the same price as a 1050Ti why not get it? its only 1gb vram difference and it also has VR capabilities the 1050ti doesn't and has much better performance in general

Makes sense if it's the same price ya

Looks like they're floating near $230 in the US at least

People often say not to get the 3GB - and at first that was the obvious choice, because the 6GB comes with more than just extra VRAM. But now it's less clear, and the 3GB really should be fine, given its now sometimes up to $180 less depending where you look.

Depends on how much 1060 6gb cost used. Note that all 3gb cards never mined because the VRAM is not enough (a big plus for some), while used 6gb cards are always being used for mining.

It comes down to cost/performance.  Tech Deals posted a video comparing the 3 and 6Gb with recent games.  He summarizes that the 3gb in most cases, gives you better price/performance, however the 3gb will be a limiting factor in some games.  The 6Gb will also be more future proofed.

It comes down to a couple of other factors such as resolution and graphics detail.  As long as you are at 1080p or below, and are willing to reduce some texture quality, the 3Gb will get you by.

You also have to consider the person's willingness to upgrade.  If you plan to use this card for the next 2-3 years, the 6Gb is the smarter choice, however if you just need something now to tie you over for something better a few months to a year down the line, a good deal on a 3Gb isn't necessarily a bad choice.
