Which monitor will suit me

Tweak3r

Planning on building my first pc and using a gtx 1080 graphics card would I be better off with a 1080p 144hz monitor?? I hear people talking about 1440p 144hz but I don't want to spend the extra money on a 1440p if il never take full advantage of the 144hz, so to round it up 1080p 144hz or 1040p 144hz with a gtx 1080??

It depends on the graphical settings you want. I can tell you that the GTX 1080 can't run the latest and greatest on their maximum settings to 144 FPS. Most of the time either on maximum or the setting below that it'll get 100-120FPS. Though some games bring it down to around 70-80 FPS

If all you do is mostly game, then a 1080p 144 Hz monitor is better if you like higher visual quality (sans resolution, of course). Otherwise I'd argue having a 1440p monitor is better than a 1080p monitor since it means more desktop real-estate.

I'm building it for just gaming coming from a console background so to be honest I think I'd value how well the game runs and frames per second over a higher res, coming from 1080p on a TV at 30fps to 60fps+ will be enough of an improvement to blow me away anyways!! Thanks for the help
