Booting Desktop PC using laptop screen

Caius Filimon

Hello there,

I'm looking into improvising an egpu sort of system by only having a full mini itx case and a fully working laptop. ideally, I would not need a portable screen for the desktop to boot.

What I'm hoping for would be that I can somehow hijack the laptop's monitor so as to see what the desktop sees. And ideally, switch between the desktop and laptop screens at will.

Would this be possible?

Thank you very much for any of your help and/or expertise.

in theory: maybe

reality: no

you would need a eDP switch, video in port/space for it and space for the electronic. Software would not be provide a acceptable experience.

I see, thank you.

I suppose that something like this would be pointless for gaming?

I don't suppose it would be terribly responsive even if it had USB 3.0? What about if it had USB C?
