Possible bottlenecking issues?

I have a PCSpecialist Defiance gaming laptop and im having some trouble with fps in a few games and I feel i shouldn't be.

 

system specs are:

i7 7820HK 

GTX 1070 (not m version)

16gb DDR4 corsair value select 2133

250GB WD Blue™ 2.5" SSD, SATA 6Gb/s

2TB SLIM SERIAL ATA III 2.5" HARD DRIVE WITH 128MB CACHE (5,400rpm)

 

 

BIOS Version/Date    American Megatrends Inc. 1.05.07 06/26/2017, 26/06/2017

 

a good example is GTAV because i see people with almost identical builds who have the fps pinned to 60fps while I'm stuck with 45ish. I've tried all kinds of settings changes and it never really goes up or down. anyone got anything i can try and hopefully improve gaming performance?

I'd say download MSI afterburner and run GTAV whilst looking at gpu and cpu usage.

I have done and the 1070 sits around 50% max and the CPU is about the same at 1080p and ram usage is just shy of 8gb so I'm left wondering what the heck am I missing.

If no component is at 100%, it's not a bottleneck.

 

Best think you can do is go up to 16GB of ram.

I've already got 16gb of ram. I'm starting to wonder if my trash sata drive for all my games could factor in

Oop sorry, didn't notice.

 

The only thing I would do with my knowledge is roll back drivers for the GPU. You shouldn't be getting a bottleneck with your specs.
